93.0. "Shirley McClaine's (sp?) Book?" by STOWMA::ARDINI (From the third plane.) Wed Mar 19 1986 13:00

    	What is all this about Shirley Mc Claine's book? When I talk
    to people about all this psychic stuff, lately, I get this standard
    comeback asking me if I had read Shirley's book. Can anyone fill
    me in on this book and what it's all about? ai want to keep up
    with the masses!
    						Thanks,
    						Jorge'
    PS. I haven't made any contributions to this file in so long that
    I felt impulsed to do so. So I came up with this entry. I want
    to let you all know I am still an active interested reader.

93.1"Out On A Limb"YOGI::NYLANDERWed Mar 19 1986 14:2214

    She's written two that have to do with psychic stuff. The first
    of the pair I have read, it is tittled "Out On A Limb." In it she
    talks about her explorations into the theory of re-incarnation and
    some other stuff. I believe the next book is "Dancing in the Light,"
    which I have read an excerpt from. The excerpt deals with soul-mates
    and karma, etc. I gather the whole book is about that.

    I found it to be interesting reading, though I'm not too fond of
    her style of writing.

    The two books are indeed DANCING IN THE LIGHT and OUT ON A LIMB,
    produced and chronologically in the opposite order from above.
    I found both books interesting, but very slow to get involved in.
    My wife simply loved both books.

    A TV miniseries "Out On a Limb" will air starting January 19 (I
    think).

    More details will probably be provided in Topic 302 of the TV
    conference.  (KP7 to select)

    Our area is advertising "Out On a Limb" for the 18th (Sunday).
    Should prove pretty interesting....

93.6Interesting readingAIMHI::STPIERREWed Apr 22 1987 20:277
    It was Shirley's movie that got me interested in this subject material.
    I then bought "Out on a Limb" which was basically her search for
    her own identity and meaning of life. "Dancing in the Light" was
    her further search and work with acupuncture to regress to past
    lives. Very fascinating reading, I enjoyed both books.

93.7Another MAclaine presentation.WRO8A::WARDFRGoing HOME--as an AdventurerWed Apr 12 1989 20:5612
        I happened to watch Shirley yesterday on Oprah Winfrey. She
    discussed her new video ("Inner Workout", I believe) and her
    newest book ("Going Within"?).
        She spent some time talking about chakras and healing. She
    also "assured" Oprah that Oprah is doing all right with the methods
    that she uses (which are somewhat different than the methods
    Shirley talks about.)
        Any comments on either the tape or the book would be nice.
    Has anybody seen/read either?

93.8She's not getting older, she's getting betterATSE::FLAHERTYEvolving, not revolvingThu Apr 13 1989 14:5111
    Frederick,

    I haven't read the book and saw only the bit of the tape on
    the Oprah show. It seemed to me that Shirley was more centered
    than she has been in the past, much less scattered and therefore
    hopefully more creditable to the viewers. I was always
    disappointed in her commercialization of 'enlightenment' (or
    whatever terms fits here), but she is much improved.

93.9And in this corner, my opinion.WRO8A::WARDFRGoing HOME--as an AdventurerThu Apr 13 1989 15:1517
    re: .8 (Roey)

         I thought she was okay...she seemed less "bouncy" than I'd
    seen her before, though. Clearly she has been "beaten up" by
    her stands, as she said that she hopes that the people who
    rib her can start coming up with better, newer jokes.
         It may only have been me [ ;-) ] but I felt that the most
    "shocking" thing she said was in response to the young Christian
    man when she said that every religion has been tried already,
    except one...the one taught by Jesus Christ. She enhanced that
    statement by adding that no one has every practiced what he
    talked about, "just look at the judgments...".
         I give her an 8 out of 10.

    Frederick
    (yes, that's a judgement)

93.10That Shirley - - what a gal!CSCMA::PERRYTue Dec 26 1989 14:5616
    Shirley is great!

    What has annoyed me with the advent of the New Age movement is that
    people seem to too quickly accept what ever they are told. But
    Shirley seems to be VERY practical in her studies. Her astrological
    aspect are most likely earth or fire.

    The chakra thing comes from Eastern philosophies - - though it is
    much more elaborate than what SM communicates.

    Also - - for interested parties - - Edgar Cayce material deals alot
    with the 'seven centers'.

    give 'em - - heaven - - shirley!!

    	Shirley MacLaine has a Taurus Sun and Virgo Moon - very earthy
    	and practical.

       (While I'm at it, I'll point to notes 331 and 366, which are
    also about Shirley...)

       As printed in the San Jose Mercury today:
        "It may be ancient history, but Shirley MacLaine said she was
    married to New York City Council President Andy Stein in a past life.
         The other-worldly actress is backing Stein for mayor of New York
    City in 1993. She wouldn't say when the two exchanged vows.
         Pressed for details by New York magazine after disclosing the
    connection at a recent Manhattan gathering, MacLaine couldn't resist
    a poke at the city's current mayor.
         I wasn't married to Andy. I was married to David Dinkins and
    died of boredom."
