266.0. "JUNE 17TH - Like FATHER, Like Son" by CSC32::GL_JOHNSON (And bring your jukebox money!) Thu Jun 14 1990 04:15

                             What is a Father.

    He who gives advice
    	when you need it most.

He who is there to give support
     	when time of need arises.

    He who offers guidance
    	when life presents an obstacle.

He who gave you his name
because it was all he had to give.

    He who loves you unconditionally
    	because he is your father.

You may not always agree with him, or like what he has to say, but
life only gave us one of him, and the time has come to show how much we
care and appreciate our one and only father.

If your father is alive, tell him just how you feel. If you live
in the same city, take him out to dinner. If he's across the country,
give him a call. If he's passed, take time to remember him. Take time
to remember and/or appreciate your grandfather, your uncle, your
brother(if he's a father or father to be), or anyone else in the family
    that is a father.

For all the fathers here in SPORTS, may *your* day be full of love
    and joy.

    Nice note, Glen.

May I add one to your list?

He who give you an advance on your allowance,
as the clothing sale ends before your payday.

Seriously, Dads, I hope you all have a wonderful day, whatever you
do. I miss my Dad an awful lot, he's been gone now for 16 years.
Sometimes, when things get me down, I think of all that he went
through in his lifetime, and my problems suddenly seem so
    insignificant.

He was quite a guy, my Dad.

There are many things a man can do in his life.

He will walk many miles, watch countless sunrises and sunsets,
cut the grass, fix leaky faucets... He'll watch some sports
on the tube, and read some good books... He'll have good days
and bad days, he'll have days that will stick in his mind so
that years later, in the golden years of his life he'll open
the door to his memories and that one day will be there, shining
still, years after....

Some men are born to greatness. Other men achieve greatness through
their words, their actions, or simply their presence in the right
place at the right time.

Some men are far from great. The average ordinary everyday Joe
who works in the factory, or drives the bread delivery truck,
who's presence on this earth might not seem as important as
that of a President, or a Premier, or a Prime Minister.

But of all the things any man can do, by far the GREATEST, and
the longest lasting, and the one that will impact the future of
the world in the most intense way, the greatest thing a man
can do, is father a child.

A man's greatest, and most difficult task, is the raising of and
protecting, the life he helped bring into the world.

I myself have never had the privilege, although I hope someday to
do so.

To all fathers everywhere, thank you.

And to my own dad: you were always there whenever I needed you... I
hope I can always be there for you when you need me.

You guys are bringing a tear to my eye.

I am absolutly thrilled to be spending my very first Father's day with
my daughter Lindsey. There's no feeling like it.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, future dads, and someday dads in
    the conference.

    'saw,

I thought you had cured yourself from using cliches!! You've obviously
had a relapse.....(at least it was a worthwhile relapse!!)

This is my first Father's Day as a dad (My daughter, Sonya, is 6
months old next week). And the sentiments expressed in previous notes
really began to have an impact. (I guess I'm still figuring out
    the true definition of "responsibility"!!!)

But the notes that have had the most impact are from those noters
whose fathers are no longer with us. I am very lucky that my father
is still alive today - but I guess I've always taken that for granted.
    This year will be different!!

Hope everyone has a great day - I know Dads everywhere (and I mean
everywhere) will feel and understand the sentiment.

O.K., SNIF-FEST is over. My Dad made me a Red Sox fan. I don't
    know how to forgive him.

    "The killer awoke before dawn.
    He put his boots on.
He took a face from the ancient gallery,
And he walked on down the hall.
He went into the room where his sister lived,
Then he paid a visit to his brother,
And then he walked on down the hall.
And he came to a door,
    And he looked inside.
    He said 'Father?"
    'Yes, son.'
    'I want to kill you.'
    'Mother? I want to.....

know why I wasn't born someplace else!!'"
