238.0. "OFFICIAL Edmonton Oilers Bandwagon Topic" by PARVAX::WARDLE (Yanks and Jets in 1990!) Wed May 16 1990 11:18

Welcome to the official Edmonton Oilers Bandwagon Note. I figured that
with the demise of the Bruins (Da Broons) the Colorado contigent would
like to hop off the Bruin Bandwagon, which is sinking in the mud, and
get on the soon to be WORLD CHAMPION EDMONTON OILERS bandwagon.

I watched the game last night with two other long time Oiler fans, both
    answer to DoH btw....

NEVAH! The Colorado contingent, unlike a certain person in New
Joisey, does not jump teams every time the wind changes direction.

Besides, the Oiler's bandwagon is for quiche-eating ankle-biters
and they serve Perrier instead of beer.

Alright. Go Oilers. The only thing sweeter then Edmonton winnig
game 7 on a late 3rd period goal would be an Oiler sweep. The Bruins
lose, they'll join the Vikes, Broncos, and Duke as bridesmaids!

As a long-time Oiler fan myself, I'm glad they invited the Bruins back
for another thrashing. Right sporting of them, don't you think? I
gotta admit, I'd have liked to seen the Rangers in their instead of the
Bruins, if only for the better competition the NYers would offer my
    Oilers.

238.26LUNER::BRAKEA Question of BalanceThu May 17 1990 17:2517
Whoa, not so hard on Ranger fans. They are the Red Sox of the NHL.
Close but no cigar. They have gone longer than any of the "Old 6"
without winning the Cup. They lost a heartbreaker to the Bruins
    in the '72 final.

The Rangers are a good team with a rich tradition. What real hockey
fans could forget Andy Bathgate, Dean Prentice, Jean Ratelle, Vic
Hadfield, Rod Gilbert, Brad Park, Eddie Giacoman..... They also
have the neatest uniforms in the entire league.

But, I've been brought up on black and gold and remain a Bruin fanatic.
However, Boston baseball fans should think twice before making light
of the Rangers long drought. Likewise, Ranger backers should look
with a kind eye on long suffering Red Sox fans.

    Rich

I was out yesterday so the 'Police weren't on the job.

I agree with Mark - best uniforms in the NHL definitely belong to
the BlackHawks - no one else is close. Not only that, if I was
dying and had a choice of one sports event I'd want to see live
before I go, it would definitely be a BlackHawks game in Chicago
Stadium - that place looks great!

Speaking of the Blackhawks, remember when Stan Makita used to have that
double curved hockey stick? He once got ejected from a game at the
Garden for a double misconduct. My friend had told me his uncle knew
Stan, so we raced down to the hallway and there he came down the
stairs. My friend says to him, "hey Stan, you remember my uncle
Billy?" Makita looked at him like he had sixteen heads and stormed
off. Were we a couple of embarrassed 12 year olds about then. Didn't
stop us from grossing him out after giving us the brushoff though!

I met Stan Mikita about 4 years ago. My sister and my wife went to
college with his daughter. He's into golf big time now. He isn't
that big (under 6 ft.) but his hands are huge. All muscle. He seemed
like a pretty good guy.
