    For those of you new to the Broon jihad, here are some suggestions
    so people won't think you're a greenhorn:
    
    -Never speak in complete sentences
    
    -When writing or typing, misspell as many words as possible, and
     keep puncuation to a minimum.
    
    -Avoid verbs in your sentences
    
    -Consume mass quantities of beer (as long as it doesn't come in
     those yuppie green bottles). Belching afterward is mandatory.
    
    -Substitute "should of" for "should have" and "loose" for "lose"
     in your writing.
    
    -When mentioning other sports, try to stick to wrasslin.
    
    -Da Broons are thy god, and though shalt not have any other hockey
     team before thee.
    
    -If you want to talk about a "good game", mention the fights first.
    
    -Learn to insult your mother/wife/kids if they step in front of
     tube when the game is on.
    
    -The other team is cheap and dirty; your team is spirited and
     agressive.

    My oh my, the chaps sure seem to be flocking to the old Hub town
    Boys.  I don't blam you at all - they are a bunch of clean, cut,
    clean conscience chaps - the Bruins are.  All of them are perfect
    gentlemen and simply outstanding sportsman - in the long tradition
    of Bruins sportsmen.  The have repeatedly stared down the Ruffians
    that want to trample over them willy-nilly, all the while keeping
    a stiff upper lip and a proud chin.  They exude confidence and fair
    play, whilst their opponents have constantly harrassed, degraded,
    and rampaged around them, like a bunch of horny Huns!  Only the
    fair mindand cool head of Mssrs. Milbury, Bourque, Neely and Poulin
    have kept them from sliding into the cesspool created by their hunnish
    hooligan opposition.  
    
    
    I'm sure they will soundly thrash the savages from Washington -
    giving them a sound beating, and hopefully teaching them an invaluable
    lesson in false pride and human frailty.

    and pointing out the grace and sportsmanship that they show on
    the ice, and I'm sure off of it.  
    
    The bruins are like the 7th Calvary, the defenders of the Alamo,
    the defenders of Wake Island, surrounded by a ruthless, savage
    mob, withstanding their loathsome harrangues.   However, led by
    Ray and Cam and Andy, they are the harbingers of doom to these
    arena visogoths.

    Like Luke Skywalker, the Bruins have vanquished the evil Darth Vader
    team from Washington.  The galaxy is safe for now, but the vandals
    from Chicago or the horde from Edmonton are a fighting right now
    for the honor to do battle on the alabaster surface of the venerable
    Garden.  The bruins withstood another savage salvo from the snickering
    slime, losing a valiant warrior in Mssr. Beers, but this will only
    make the troop stronger, more resiliant, in their quest for hockey's
    holy grail:  Lord Stanley's Cup.
    
    Who they play matters not.  We all know that our fair heroes will
    face another crazed team - meatpackers and butchers from Chicago,
    or murdering herdsmen and conniving backstabbing moguls from Edmonton.
    Like the besieged at Bastogne, the Bruins must simply dig in and
    get ready to exploit any weakness, and then press forward with a
    precise attack which will leave the heathen oppressors gasping for
    air and spinning in circles.

    Now that Cam has decided that he doesn't have to be macho everytime
    someone confronts him, he's finally turning into a good all around
    player.  Funny, but when I put me early tirade, bruin-fan baiting
    notes in about Cam being a goon, everyone wailed on me. Cam has
    shaken that image during the playoffs.  the real test will come
    next year - will Cam decide to return to chippiness, or realize
    that one can be good without retaliation and stupid penalties.

    I've been on this bandwagon since I cut teeth.  Since Phoenix is a
    giant when it comes to hockey (can you say, "Go Roadrunners!"), I've lost 
    touch at times.  I have gone to LA for Bruins-Kings games on occasion 
    though.

    Quick question:  What's the B's season series records against Edmonton
    and Chicago?

    I knew the B's had the best record in the NHL this year so I'm not
    surprised they did well against the Oilers and Black Hawks.

So, now it becomes a two-faceted decision for me:

	a) not having watched much hockey since the Whalers
	   took the Wales Champ Bruins to 7, do I watch the 
	   finals...

	b) which team do I like least, and I do I root for the others?


Answer a is maybe if nothing better is on.
Answer b is that, much as I dislike the Bruins, I can at least respect
them, and remember that I used to be a B's fan... the Oilers are lower
than pond scum in my estimation.

So, if someone held a gun to my head and asked me who I was rooting
for, I'd have to say the B's, but since I'm not really interested, 
it don't really matter I guess..

	I'm in a delima too Frank.  I find it real hard to root for the
B's, but myabe even harder to root for the Oilers.  I keep thinking
of reasons to root for the B's but each reason as an equaly good reason 
not to root for them.  Lets see -

The Bruins are from the adams division....but then again it's the Bruins.  
The Bruins are one of the original six...but then again it's the Bruins.  The 
Bruins realy do have a team that is easy to root for...but then again it's the
bruins.  It would be nice to know that the Hab's got their but kicked but
the best team in the league...but then again it's the Bruins.  Alot of 
friends and relatives would be real happy if the B's won...but then again
it's the Bruins.  

	Come tuesday night we'll see if it's possible for me to actualy
root for the B's.

	I really have to thank LeFave for signing me up.  Ever
	since I've become a Broons fan, my life has completely
	turned around!

	Prior to being a Broons faithful, I actually ASKED my
	wife if I could switch the tv from a Cosby rerun to
	the hockey game.  Can you believe it?  I was even
	courteous enough to let my son watch his Teenage Mutant
	Ninja cartoon tape whilst I sat there wanting to watch
	hockey.

	Now, if my wife even looks at me sideways when I change
	the channel (unannounced of course) to a hockey game,
	I body-check her into the sofa!  And if anybody has to
	cross my line of sight to the TV to leave the room, they
	have to crawl on their belly so my view of the game is
	not interrupted (or else I'll bounce a frito off their
	haid(tm)).

    Games 1 and 2 are on NESN.  Games 3, 4, 6 and 7 are on Ch 38.  Game
    5 is the one unknown game.  If the Bruins have won 3 of the first
    4 games, then Game 5 will be on Ch 38; otherwise, it will be on
    NESN.  Games 5, 6 and 7 may not be necessary depending on the course
    of the series anyway.

	No thanks, I may actualy pull for them (just a little) but the
thought of being on the B's bandwagon.....I couldn't do it.  Plus with
all the B's bashing I've done over the years, I'd probably get thrown off
once it got going fast enough.

    Wifey-poo has an interesting observation regarding hockey players...
    A player gets his face sliced open by a high stick, gets stitched
    up and may miss a shift or two.  Howver, he will return to action.
    
    A baseball player strains his finger tying his shoe laces and goes
    on the 21 day disabled list.  Go figure!

    The score notwithstanding, this was perhaps the finest hockey game
    I've ever seen.  The Oilers made the most of their limited
    opportunities in regulation, the Bruins didn't.  Gutsy comeback
    by the locals, but they had trouble putting the puck in the net,
    even when Ranford was beaten.
    
    Positive notes:
    
    1. The Bruins were able to skate with the Oilers, something they 
       couldn't do in '88.
    
    2. Ranford was on, but I still think he can be beaten with more
       quality shots by Boston.
    
    3. Edmonton sure knows how to stop the Boston attack at their own
       blue line.
    
    4. Edmonton should never had sat on the 2-1 lead with 6 minutes
       go.
    
    This game was really a gem.  No rough stuff, but some bone-crunching
    checks.  Boston outshot Edmonton 52 to 32, and in my opinion carried
    the play.  Save for Wesley missing an open net in OT and the B's
    hitting the post numerous times, the outcome could have gone the
    other way.
    
    Oh well, Boston *must* win Friday night.

    Great game, and the outcome was perfect.  Mark - Ranford has been
    playing that way all through the playoffs.  He's been extremely
    tough.  And yes, the Bruins skated with the oilers - but remember,
    tehy were playing in that travesty of a cheesbox called the Garden.
    Interested to see how they match up on the BIG ice in Edmonton.
    
    The Garden is a joke.  They should just condemn the place.

    As an attendee at last night's steamy Stanley Cup opener, I was more
    impressed by the play of the Oiler defense and the back-checking of the
    forwards than with the play of Ranford. The seats I got were in the
    second row, next to the visitors bench, great for the action directly
    in front of you, but difficult to watch play at the other end. Anyhow,
    Bill was clearly beaten on more than just the two shots that went in
    the net. At least three shots hit the pipes, and a couple of shots to
    the five hole nearly snuck through. Those are the ones that I observed
    during the three periods he was in front of us. Still, you can't argue
    with 50+ saves and a win.
    
    This game painfully reminded me of the New York Rangers visits this
    past season, where they bottled up the blue line, waited for their
    chances and then made the most of them.
    
    Interesting, that Klima scored the winner. Earlier in the evening he
    had climbed over the boards to move out for a face-out, skated about 10
    feet, and got called back to the bench. This occured at least twice in
    the third period and I don't remember him playing at all in regulation.
    I think the only Bruin with fresh legs was Byers, but his scoring
    abilities aren't his greatest strength.
    
    As to John's point about the Garden. It was hot, steamy and smelled bad
    last night.

    This game was ugly.  Boston was totally outplayed.  Time to regroup.
    It won't be easy.

    Denny, Tony Esposito was originally a member of the Montreal
    organization and did play in that 0-0 tie with the Bruins during

    The Bruins passed a serious gut check last night, beating the Erlers
    2-1 in Edmonton.  I hope Milbury doesn't make a habit of sitting
    on a lead with a period to go.  I really thought Edmonton would
    pull this one out.  Moog bounced back and seems to have regained
    the form that got them to the finals.
    
    Friday night was one of the most difficult games to watch as a Bruins
    fan.  Moog was either really tired or mentally elsewhere.  I'm glad
    Milbury pulled him.  If Moog got shelled in game 2 he'd be too
    shell-shocked to rebound for the remainder of the series.  Cain't
    fault Lemelin one bit.  Reggie hadn't seen live action since early
    in the Hartford series.
    
    We *need* game 4.

    	Way to go Broons.  Winning game three proved that Edmonton cain
    be beated and that Boston cain win on the road.  A game 4 V puts
    Boston right back in the race.

    After the incedible collapse Friday night there were a lot of son of
    sweep stories in the paper. I didn't buy that. I think the Bruins have
    changed their team around,so they're no longer just a Boston Garden
    team. I only wish I had put in here,before last night's game,which 
    didn't surprise me at all.
    
    Boston is the better team and should be able to win 3 of the next 4.

Boston and Edmonton are well matched. However the Bruins must continue to play 
like they did in the 1st period last night and not try and sit on a lead. 
The Bruins were very fortunate to survive last night w/out the game being tied.

They were outplayed from the opening of the 2nd period until the end of the
game.

	Burridge absolutely stinks on breakways.  I've seen him shut out on
more then he's scored on.  Luckily this one didn't hurt that much.

	I was out last week and didn't get to comment on the other games 
(I'm sure you all noticed too :-)

	Game one was one of the best games I've ever seen.  Good hockey,
good hitting, great goaltending, and real excitement.  The B's really should 
have won that game.  Had it not been for Ranford's excellent performance, the 
horseshoe he had up his ass (that's why the one's he didn't save hit either the
post or the cross bar), and Wesley thinking the goal was 7 feet high they would 
have. 

	Game 2 - sorry too disapoint you all but I have no comment.  I didn't
get to see it.  I will say that I liked the way Milbury handeled the press 
afterwards.  Aks Milburry a stupid question and he'll tell you it's a stupid
question.  

	Game 3 - Who said the B's couldn't skate with the Oilers on the big
rink?  I agree with a previous noter though, they realy shouldn't have tried 
sitting on the lead, they almost the the Oilers back into it.

    You can bet that there will be some moves made before the start of the
    season (is it September yet? :-)).  Sinden doesn't sit still.  I also
    think he's playing negotiation games with Walz, by saying that every 
    team he's talked to about him, would not offer him a 1-way contract.
    He's certainly no fool, and I think Walz would be best served to sign
    the contract and concentrate on making the team, instead of wondering
    where he's going to be playing.  There is a big opportunity for him.

    I had the pleasant opportunity to shoot the breeze with Terry O'Reilly
    a couple of nights ago during the Lobster Trap's "inaugural" party.

    I feel most comfortable :-), working a couple nights (mondays &
    thursdays for now) at the Lobster Trap Restaurant & Steak House
    in beautiful downtown Haverhill, MA on the Merrimack River.  Start off
    your evening in our Sports Bar Lounge with some fresh oysters from the
    raw bar and a pint of Killian's while watching Monday Night Football on
    our wide screen tv (coming soon) or listening to the high fidelity
    sounds from our 100 cd juke box.........
    
    You get the idea, just come in on a night that I'm working and leave a
    huge tip.  :-)  Now, back to the Terry O'Reilly story......
    
    Anyway, Terry, a good friend of the restaurant's owner, comes in and 
    is immediately mobbed by people who had to ask who he was before
    getting his autograph.  :-)  When all that BS was over (I got his
    autograph too!) and Terry had some time to himself, I went over to
    strike up a conversation.  First, I asked him what he thought of Ray's
    contract and he said that he was glad for him and jealous too, but not
    enough for him to get back on skates.  Then I asked him about Dale
    Hunter, and he said he'd gladly get back on skates!  We shot the breeze
    some more before I had to get back to work.  Since he live close by in
    Georgetown, he said he'll be stopping in from time to time.  I hope so
    cause I think he's a decent guy.

    were cruising toward a 3-0 shutout when they were rudely awakened with
    three minutes left in the game.  It took an empty netter to hang on
    4-2.

    with 3+ minutes to go.  The only time he came back was for the
    face-off, and then left the remainder of the time till Carpenter got

    Not a pretty win, but still a win, considering Bourque, Poulin, Janney
    and Moog are out.

    The way things have gone for the B's of late, I'll take any win thank

    	Wake me when it's April...

    Vancouver had the momentum going for most of the night, and it got real
    hectic in the last few minutes.  A big play after the Canucks pulled
    within one, was a faceoff in the B's end.  Dave Christian won the
    faceoff giving the Bruins control of the puck.  I hadn't really paid
    much attention during the other faceoffs during the game, but is
    Milbury using him for all of them (when he's on the ice of course), 
    or just the important ones?  He took quite a few last year in the playoffs.

    Da Broons were handed a gift lasted night.  Tied 2-2 in the third
    period, a high shot was blasted pasted Andy Moog, but the play
    continued.  Clearly, the replay showed the puck go under the crossbar
    and bounce back on the goal line, but did not go over it while on the
    ice.  Seems the puck clanked of the stanchion at the back of the net,
    but the REFS missed it, as did the goal judge.  The only sure ones were
    the Blues with their sticks raised in the air.  The B's won in
    overtime.

         I ain't no homer but I think there was at least some doubt about
    whether or not the puck went in.  One thing is clear, though.  The Bs
    have been mighty lucky thus far.  In two games in which the goal judges'
    calls were questioned, the B's not only got the benefit of the doubt
    but came away with the W.

       Couldn't tell from the replay I saw. It was definitely ON the line.

    Well, the way I saw it, the puck did not appear to hit the front
    crossbar, but went further in.  The audible "clank" didn't sound like
    the true "ring" of a crossbar shot.  So with these well-tuned hockey
    ears and hawky eyes, it should have been a goal. ;^)
    
    And I *am* a homer, so I'll take it.  It's two more points toward the
    soon to be famous Dins' spectacular jock strap black and gold dash to

From my seat just behind the net last night, I'd have to say the Blues 
definately got jobbed on that one - the puck clanked off the inside of the net. 
It was in and out so fast though, I don't think the ref could be sure enough to 
reverse the call of the goal judge, who IMO blew the call.

When it happened all of us sitting around there looked at each other with 
looks on our faces that just said "Well, we'll take that one!!"

And as for Hull's goal - WOW!!!  This guy has a shot!!  I'll be surprised if he 
doesn't get 100 goals this year...

    Aren't the goal judges hired by the team, and not "officials" hired by
    the NHL?
    
    Now I know replays that stop the game are a pain in the A, but it seems
    that some fixed cameras hung from the rafters would clear up those
    deficiencies where the puck refuses to stay seated in the net.  I don't
    see how a goal judge can tell if a puck juggled in the air has crossed
    the plane of the goal line or not.  And unlike a football REF, a REF on
    the ice can't plant himself on the goal line at all times.

With all the technology available today, it would be fairly easy
to devise a net that could tell you when a goal was scored, rather
than depending on some old fart sitting behind the goal.

Aside from that, it's long been known that officiating in the NHL
outright sucks.  There's too many non-calls, and calls that shouldn't
be.  As to the off ice officials, I've always wondered why it is
that the home team provides such crucial officials as goal judges.

Obviously it's important enough in the playoffs that they be
from neutral sites, so why not during the regular season (Gee, 
another argument for why the real season starts in April).

    Conference of the National Hockey League, frustrated the New York
    stRangers, the leaders of the Patrick Division of the Wales Conference
    of the National Hockey League lasted night at New York.
    
    The stRangers, as is the typical style of their play took a 2-zip lead
    early in the first period, and then tried to hang on for the next 53
    minutes.
    
    I shut the game off with the B's trailing 2-1, knowing that when I do
    this, my team usually comes back.  This is known as the Dickster "Kiss
    of Life."
    
    So, from the early riser news this morning, it was determined that Da
    Broons scored with 14 seconds left in the game (I believe god(tm) Neely
    potted that one.)  Bob Sweeney put in the coup de fromage with 1:30
    left in the O.T.

I mean, to hear you guys talk you'd think that something exciting
happened last night....yawn....yawn....

       B's get first shutout at The Forum since January 1974!! 2-0

    The B's had another shot on net which looked like it might have been an
    in-and-out shot off the cross bar last night.  It was a Montreal goal
    judge on the red light last night, though.

       Gordie Kluzak announced his retirement on Bob Lobel's 'Sports Final'
    show lasted night. Said he's going back to school and take either
    business or law.

    	How about that, Bruins knock off the Dead Wings in o.t..
    Randy "#12" Burridge gets the winner in o.t..  Boston improves
    to 15-8-4 over all for a total of 34 points and a five point
    margin over the Habs, whom they play in a couple of days.
    
        Boston almost blew a 3-1 lead going into the third, but
    despite Stevie Yzerman's efforts to tie it all up, Boston and 
    Moog earn yet another victory.
    
    	Boston is looking not too bad, and they also carry 2 games
    in hand on the Canadians, so looks like their upcoming meeting 
    could be a "4 point" turn around.

    Gee I didn't know a team that had an above .500 record and was
    unbeaten in 6 straight would be considered the Dead Wings...
    I'll take it compared to last year's teams...

    I'll bet 5 bucks that the Bruins don't make it to the finals this year
    UNLESS they learn to take care of business....   I have watch them play
    and they are not the team they were last year. Boston needs to get
    hungry... They need to show that when you come into Boston garden put
    on your best game... Because the bruins are ready to play.... I don't
    see that YET this year...

	Bruins won't make it far unless they start to play 60mins of hockey
night after night.  They've had a good record the last ~8 games but they have
not played thjat well.

mc
