Boston over NY 3-1 With NY's second half performance, they
don't deserve to even be in the playoffs.
Detroit over Indiana 3-0	Detroit's ready.
Chicago over Milwaukee 3-1	Jordan and co. ready to make a run
    				for the conference finals.
Philly over Cavs 3-0	Cavs make the classic choke in classic
    				Cav style.

Utah over Phoenix 3-2	Good series. Utah doesn't want to have
    				a repeat of last year.
Portland over Dallas 3-1	Portland should finally stop the first
    				round choke.
SA over Denver 3-1 SA came on strong in the end. They
    				have a mission.
LA over Houston 3-0 Akeem is a dream, but LA is too hot
to be even remotely challenged by this
    				team.

Chicago over Bucks 3-0	Jordan-Air is extraordinaire...
Cavs over Sixers 3-2	Cavs match up well... Barkley's head will
				not swell...

Phoenix over Utah 3-2 Chambers/KJ have more support... Utah
				battles them on the court...
Portland over Dallas 3-0	Blazers will be team to beat... whomping

Spurs over Nuggets 3-2 Moe will make Larry look like Curly... but
Robinson and Cummings are a bit too surly...
LA over Rockets 3-1 But if Akeem and Thorpe excel, Riley's hair

N.Y vs. Boston Knicks 3-1 in a stunning upset (okay,
                                gots my Knickerbocker glasses on...)
Detroit vs. Indiana Detroit 3-2 Pacers no pushover, as

                                bad boys.
Philly vs. Cleveland Philly 3-1. Barkley and the boys too
                                much for Lenny's boys.
Chicago vs. Milwaukee Chicago 3-1 Bucks never match up well
                                with Bulls.

Phoenix vs. Utah Best first round series. Utah attones
for lasted year, but I pick the Jazz
cuz tom Chambers is my least-foavorite
                                ballplayer.
LA vs. Houston LA 3-1 Rockets steal one, but Mr. Selfish
Pivotman caint overcome the Lakers by
                                hisself. Magic shines.
Portland vs. Dallas Dallas 3-2. Portland chokes as usual.

Denver vs San Antonio Spurs win 3-2 in close series. Micheal
Adams leads Nuggets, Cummings the Spurs.

Actually, neither Phoenix or Utah finished very well! Phoenix slipped
to the 5th seed and Utah lost the division title. I do think Phoenix
has been playing better than the Jazz though.

Suns have more options on offense, plus Utah hasn't won in Phoenix all
year. Suns won 1 of the games in Utah.

Not many giving the Nuggets much of a chance against SA, huh? This
could be an upset. The Nuggets won an unheard of 4 of 5 on their end
of season road trip. SA squeaked by the Nuggets in the final week.
Nuggets returned to running game, i.e. JBC is holding down the bench,
    and are playing much better.

    Bruce,
Carrol has played well, kinda. The guy has hustled, rebounded, blocked
shots, generally good defense, but he can't throw a rock in the ocean.
He works well to get the shot but usually misses. I'm talking serious
masonry work here. He was playing allot because of his hustling, and
because Rasmussen was playing simply terrible. Blair has come on and
Carrol still can't shoot so he isn't playing much.
217.23VAXWRK::NEEDLEWed Apr 25 1990 02:284
Carroll's minutes were reduced to around 10 per game over the last 10 games of
the season. I don't think he'll be a factor at all in the playoffs.

    Jeff,
I just heard last night that JBC might have to become a factor in the
playoffs, for better or worse. Schayes has an injury, didn't hear what,
and it is questionable how much he will be able to play. If they are
forced to go with JBC as their main man in the middle, Denver doesn't
    have a chance.

JBC may have a history of not playing to his potential, but the Nuggets
do not have ANYONE who can guard Robinson. Personally speaking, the
biggest stiffs on the Nuggets are Rasmussen and Schayes. In the
words of Doug Moe they are too soft!!!

After 2 games, it should quite apparent to most that if San Antonio
survives the Nuggets, they will get knocked out by Portland in 4
or 5 games. In game 2, Denver shot only 44% and SA shot 54%, yet
halfway thru the 4th quarter, the Nuggets had a 3-point lead. The
Nuggets played the first 2 games without Schayes, and they are a
weak inside team to begin with. The Spurs did win game 1 fairly
easy, but it still wasn't a blowout. Also, SA has a poor bench,
and they don't have the playoff experience.

I'm not trying to prematurely bury the Nuggets, but if SA does get
by Denver, they won't go any farther.

The Nuggets looked real good Saturday night and San Antonio still won the
game with a couple of strong inside plays by Robinson. Denver will win 1 game
at Home but I expect San Antonio to play for the West title against the Lakers
Sean Elliot looks real tough with a 20' jumper. If Cummings can play 3 quarters

Joe, those seedings only count for the first round. The winners of the
divisions irreguardless of records get the #1 and #2 seeds. After that
regular season records determine homecourt advantage so Portland would
have the homecourt just as Chicago will have should they advance and
face Philly if they should also advance....

Carroll for Parish and McHale was NOT the entire Celtics - Warriors
    trade.

Here was the entire deal: On June 9, 1980, Golden State traded Robert
Parish and its #1 draft choice (#3 overall) to Boston for two #1 draft
choices (#1 and #12). Boston selected Kevin McHale with the third
overall choice. Golden State picked Joe Barely Cares #1 and 6-10 F
Ricky Brown with the 12th selection in the first round.

Second round matchups (best of seven):

#1 Detroit Pistons vs. #5 New York Knicks
    	#2 Chicago Bulls vs. #3 Philadelphia 76ers

#1 Los Angeles Lakers vs. #5 Phoenix Suns
#2 Portland Trailblazers vs. #3 San Antonio Spurs
(Portland has 1-0 lead in series)

    	predictions:

    	Detroit over NY 4-1

Detroit hasn't been glorious coming off breaks, they should
be qualified enough however to beat the "DESTINY!" ridden
    	Knicks.

    	Chicago over Philly 4-3

Toughest series to call. Jordan and Barkley will shine.
Comes down to the home court advantage where Chicago is
up there with the best. Still wondering how physical
a game we are going to see, and how the refs are going
    	to call this.

    	LA over Phoenix 4-1

LA's looking like champs. Should be a good series, however.
The West is no longer a cake walk.

    	Portland over SA 4-2

Duckworth is injured but Kersey is making up for the absence.
Portland shook the first round choke, let's hope they don't
start to develop a second round choke. 8^)

Detroit is a little better defensively, but Portland is the #1
rebounding team in the league (especially on the offensive end). They
also have a more potent offense, and better athletes, especially when
running in the open floor. Detroit can't run with them! Finally, Detroit
is 0-20 in the last 20 games in Portland!
