I thought that the Donk's still had to give the Cowboys draft picks from
the Tony D. Deal???? Seems like so many yards for said pick... Of course
he really has not done anything except cost them money since coming to
Denver.....

Coach Johnson is looking to have more say in the Cowboys' football
operation. He wants to play a large part in the draft selections, will
be the offensive coordinator, and will try to participate more in the
other aspects of management. He says that he is looking for a big
running back in the draft. When asked why they let their QB coach go
with no attempt at keeping him (despite him being credited with
Aikman's development) he said that he will not stand in the way of
anyone doing what they want to do. He also said that this team is not
being put together just to showcase Aikman. He said that when he took
over the team did revolve around one player (probably referring to
Walker) and was a loser. This is a team game and that was the way he
    was going to coach it.

Johnson also says he'll listen to offers for Walsh but does not want
draft choices. He wants a player(s) and hes not in a rush to make the
trade because of the way Walsh's 4 year contract was structured. Walsh
got a big signing bounus but not much money the 1st year, he gets a
little more money the second year but the bulk of contract is to be paid
over the 3rd and 4th year.

I still think Walsh will be traded to the Vikings for either Browner
or Doleman. Doleman makes the most sense for the Vikes because with
all the other good D linemen they have he would be missed the least.

The Cowboys are jumping into the Plan B players pool with both feet.
Their most notable aquisition to date is ex-Bear WR Dennis McKinnon.
With both of their starting WR going down with knee injuries last year,
the 'boys were looking for experienced help in this area. They also
picked up a couple of running backs, some OL help, and a linebacker or
two (one from the Pats). Johnson said he took a look at the
improvement of teams like Green Bay and KC who signed a large number of
Plan B players last year and wants to emulate their improvement.

Danny Stubbs DE 2nd rnd pick (47 overall)
Terrence Flagler RB 3rd rnd pick (68 overall)
    49er 3rd rnd pick (84 overall)
    49er 11th rnd pick

I like the trade. Stubbs had a good rookie year but was injured and
nicked all of last year. He will be the starting left DE. Flagler has
looked good in mop up duties during 49ers games but I don't know much
about his talents. This trade marks the end of Too Tall Jones career
as a Cowboy, and they will now draft an OLB with there 1st rnd pick for
sure. I wouldn't be suprised to see Jim Jeffcoat or Danny Noonan traded
before Sunday. There 2nd rnd pick might still be a running back, but I
wouldn't be suprised it they take a safty (Mark Carrier, Vince Buck)
Steve Walsh will stay put at least until training camp.

Noone is interested in Walsh, at least not for the ransom Dallas is
    demanding.

Why would anyone want Jeffcoat? He is 29 years old and has been
ineffective the last 2-3 years. Noonan? Maybe in a package deal.

Flagler was the 49ers 1st round pick a couple of years ago. He was
highly touted coming out of college. Has been relegated to clean-up
duty behind Craig and asked to be traded last year.

Stubbs was "the last defensive lineman off the bench" for the 49ers
last year. I think he can become a very good player.

All-in-all, I think it was a good trade for Dallas. They desperately
need RB and DL help. Both should start for them.

.... much less a rookie who became a messiah in the last couple

    Doc,

Your right about the George trade and then they go and give him 15 mil over
6 years wow, Either Indy is brain dead or they see something in George
alot of people don't. Even tho' Hinton is a pro-bowl lineman he is
big into the union stuff, which could have negative effect on the players
vs management relationship. Who knows. Ware is perfect for Detroit, Peete
will get a chance to develope, and if Detroit is successfull with the
run and shoot you will see a few teams converting to it and maybe Peete
could be good trade bait in 2 years. Detroit will be a power house team
    real soon.

I'll write in here later on what I thought of the Cowboy draft.
Dallas put on a big smoke screen before the draft, they had everbody
convinced they were going after defense and went with offense with there
1st two picks. Emmit Smith dropped to the 17th pick because his agent
has a history of contract hold outs. I hope he signs quick, he should be
starter come week 1 next year. The only thing I seemed to be right about
was Dallas trying to move Noonan and they almost got New Orleans to bite
and give up a 1st round pick for him.

160.36Where's the Defence ?FSHQA2::JRODOPOULOSWed Apr 25 1990 13:1315
Danny Noonan was a 1st rounder a few years back, but has been hampered
with injuries throughout his career. The papers in Dallas attributed
that to his steroid use at Nebraska (go Big Red) but I feel there
is more to it. Last years defensive line sucked big time, I felt
really stupid paying $25 to watch these 'big, strong' linemen get
    pushed around by opposing teams.

The draft was dissapointing in that Dallas did not do much to shore
up their defence. Plan B was great, but these players are someone
else's rejects for one reason or another. Clark from Miami was
available but Jimmy, his old coach, just passed him by. Jimmy,
Jimmy, Pee Wee Hermann could run through our our defensive line.

160.37.500, they have to walk before they can runHPSRAD::SANTOSm&m's are to hard to peelWed Apr 25 1990 16:3239
Frank, .500 is reaching, the team is to young, theres talent there in
a few of the positions but like I said way to young. There shaping up
nice tho' need a two more drafts.

    John,
The biggest problem with the defense last year was it was on the field
the whole game because the offense couldn't move the ball, specially
after Irvin and Martin went down and Paul Palmer head turned into a
vacant lot again. The D greatly improved over the second half of the
the season. They still don't have the big play LB they need, but hey
they have to may holes to fill so they filled other holes. The deal
of Noonan to New Orleans would have brought LB James Francis which is
the guy they wanted but NO backed out.

Noonan can play like a #1 when hes healthy which he should be now.
When he got back in the lineup in the second half of the season teams
no longer could double up on Jeffcoat and Jeffcoat had 10 sacks over
the last 8 games of the season. With Jeffcoat, Noonan, Danny Stubbs,
Mark Walen (IR all of last year), the 3rd rnd pick Jimmy Jones (very
quick and big (4.88 speed, 280), Tony Tolbert dh pass rusher (impressive
rookie) they should be able to survive. Dean Hammel and Willi Broughton
may not make the team. The key is for Stubbs to play like he did his
rookie year in San Fran, and Noonan to stay health, Jeffcoat isn't
big enough to handle double teaming all game. I think the Clark your
talking about is Bernard Clark from Miami, if so he's a MLB, they don't
need that. The draft brought at least 3 starters (Stubbs, Alex "ace"
Wright, and Emmit Smith/Flagler), 3 position that have greatly improved
over last year. Out of the Plan B McKinnon WR (until Irvin returns),
Gibson SS, should start. Kelvin Martin will be moved to the 3 WR spot
where he can play off of Wrights great speed.

Good draft for Dallas I thought, they also traded 3 6-rnd picks to
the Chargers for a 3 rnd pick next year, and 3 late rnd picks to the
Raiders for the Raiders 5th rnd pick (Smagala db Notre Dame). They sound
like bad trades but with 16 Plan B players already signed and roster
limits set at 80 come camp time some of these late round picks wouldn't
be around to long anyways, so trade quantity for quality

    Nelly,

Novacek has had a great pre-season catching the ball but he can't
block to well. Backing up Novacek was Steve Folsom who is a clone
of Novacek but without speed. In the wings is a talented kid, Kieth
Jennings, but he has lazy stamped on his forehead and JJ must have
given up on him. So I assume with the addition of Awalt they now
have two quality TE's and I expect Folsom and Jennings to be released
         real soon.

With Novacek's speed he will be able to get down field and I do expect
a double TE offense quite a bit with Emmitt Smith as there lone
tailback. Now if the little brat Smith would sign the offense would
         be set.

As far as using Novacek as a WR. I can't see it. JJ has 4 fast
receivers (Irvin, Martin, Alexander, Harris) who can catch the ball,
makes more sense to use them.

Johnson says he does expect to have Emmitt Smith signed before the
start of the season. Smith has requested a play book, his agent wasn't
pleased, Johnson sent it to him and told'em he's expected to know
it the 1st day he shows up.

How's Irvin's knee?
160.47HPSRAD::SANTOSGirl is your husband married?Thu Aug 30 1990 16:3610
Irvin knee is fine. He is about 2 months ahead of his rehab, but JJ wants
to stick to the orginal rehab schedule, so don't expect Irvin to start
until week 3. Irvin has been held out of contact the 1st 3 weeks of camp.
JJ has said the future for the Cowboys and Irvin is not the beginning of
this season so there's no sense in risking anything.

Irvins rehab is so far ahead because he peddled his bike (26 miles each way)
to his daily rehab sessions during the off season.

Didn't Irvin catch a TD pas from Walsh this pass weekend against the

160.49HPSRAD::SANTOSGirl is your husband married?Thu Aug 30 1990 17:2814
Irvin might have played against Pitt, he practiced with the second team
offense last week. I didn't see or hear anything about the game other
    than the final score.

WR's in the Cowboy camp are Rod Harris, Dennis McKinnon, Alexander Wright,
Kelvin Martin, Micheal Irvin, James Dixon, Derrick Sheppard. I expect
them to might carry 6 WR and 2 TE, meaning Sheppard is the odd man out.

Speedy receivers who couldn't catch the ball last year were James Dixon
and Bernard Ford. Ford signed via Plan B with someone else and Dixon
should make the team because he's one of the best kickoff return men
    in the NFL.

    sent?

    Glenn
160.51HPSRAD::SANTOSGirl is your husband married?Thu Aug 30 1990 18:5640
Glenn,

Thanks again for the tape, you should be receiving my return package
      any day now.

      What did I learn:
Aikman dominates his offense, he switch's plays at the line and he
sure can throw that quick down and out pass. Walsh doesn't have the
same effect on the team, its Aikmans team all the way.

Rod Harris-80 is a talent at WR, he was hidden in the depth charts
in Houston/New Orleans last year. WR Mckinnon didn't show me anything.
      Martin and Irvin didn't play.

Timmy Smith-33 is a waste of time. Terrence Flagler is a talent but
he looks lost, Darly Johnston is there best runner and hes in the
lineup to block, they need to sign Emmitt Smith.

Defense is decent, except the DBacks, there all weak except Ike Holt.
Danny Stubbs is a player and OLB Norton will shine this year.

Offensive line was patched up due to injuries. They need a running
back who can hit the hole. Running backs make them look bad.

I would like to see 4 wins and no major injuries to there talented
young players. Anything more than 4 wins, I'll get a trainwreck.

What I noticed on the Chargers:
Defense is loaded, but they show the coverage and blitz to soon. They
all want to make the tackle, instead of containing an area. Very
hyper unit. They should improve with experience. Aikman beat them a
few times by reading the defense and changing the play.

Marion Butts is a workhorse and they should use him more often this
year. WR Antony Miller can not be stopped, a star in the making.

Chargers are a talented young team. If they can avoid losing close
games because of there youth, they have a good shot at the playoffs.

Cowboys trade draft picks for Alonzo Highsmith. Highsmith is young (25)
and was the back the Cowboys tried to trade for in February but Houston
wanted 2 1st rnd picks. I sure the picks are conditional and the High-man
wanted out of Houston so I don't think they gave too much up front for
  him.

Cowboys cut Terrence Flagler, Timmy Smith, and Lorenzo Hampton. They
don't lose anything cutting Hampton because the draft pick sent to
Denver was conditional on him making the team. Flagler cost'em a 3rd round
pick in the this past draft, the bum. Smith is a stiff and the whole
league knows it so we got him for free.

This leaves the Cowboys with 2 full backs (Daryl Johnston, Tommy Agee) and
one tailback (Highsmith) in camp. Maybe Walsh will be the starting QB and
they will move Aikman to the tailback spot. No just kidding, but they will
use the one back offense alot this year.

Emmitt Smith is still unsigned and holding out.

The Walsh trade was a good deal for Dallas and gives Jimmy Johnson a
chance to fix the one blunder hes made in trying to rebuild the Cowboys.
They now have 3 number 1 picks in the next draft. The 2nd round pick
in 92 for Walsh is conditional and could be a #1 pick in 92.

The biggest part of this trade is that Aikman vs Walsh problem is now
solved. It was becoming a distraction to the team. If the Saints had
held out they could have gotten Walsh cheaper in about 4 weeks.

Also hold out Jesse Soloman is on the trading block for a 2nd round
pick (real cheap) but nobody wants him because he refuses to workout
during the off season with his team. He wants to be near his family
in Florida during the off season. Poor guy, I guess he can't handle
relocating or a year round job.

Alonso Highsmith trade to Dallas blows my mind. In the spring Dallas
was offering Houston a #1 for him and Houston turned it down. Pardee
the new Oiler coach made public that Highsmith couldn't fit into the
run-and-shoot offense and ask Dallas if the offer was still on the table.
Dallas said no way. The terms of the trade was a 2nd round pick in 91
and conditional 5th round pick in 92. The conditional pick can become
a 2nd round pick in 92 based on Highsmiths performance this year.

Dallas should have beaten the Skins this weekend. They out played them,
the 2 ints hurt real bad. If they can go 2-6 the first half of the season
and 3-5 the second half, I will be happy. All the physical conditioning
that JJ demands seems to be paying off. So far (knock on wood) there hasn't
been any injuries to the starters. Aikman was sacked 8 times this pass
weekend. He was only sacked 19 times last year in 11 games. Washington
was blitz happy. Bring on the Giants.

The second round pick in '92 may change to a first rounder if Walsh
    really pans out.

Glenn, I think the Saints were really in a bind. Yes, they did give up
a lot (Dallas is stockpiling those draft picks), but they didn't have
much choice. Hebert doesn't want to play for them if the money isn't
right, and their current starter has the worst QB rating in the NFL.
Ironically enough, Aikman isn't far behind in that category.

Like Chuck said all those folks that got on JJ's case for picking Walsh now
got egg on their face. Walsh is a pretty smart customer and a winner something
Fourcade is not. Walsh may not have the greatest arm strength but he isn't
prone to stupid mistakes either. Seems Montana doesn't have the greatest arm
strength either but look at what he's done. If Walsh becomes even 3/4's the
QB that Joe is than neither team will get screwed in this deal....

This deal makes the picking of Walsh in the supplemental draft look
like a blunder. Had the Cowboys not done that, they could have made
the deal with Indianapolis for the pick that would have been Jeff
George. If you compare what Atlanta got for George to what Dallas just
    got, the Saints did OK.

Maybe the Saints did give up a lot for Walsh but one has to remember
that they are planning on recouping some of those picks when Hebert is
    traded.

The rash of QB injuries around the league makes Hebert look more and more

Jimmy Johnson said next years draft they will do what the Bears did this past
year (draft a player if he agrees to a contract before he is drafted). Jerry
Jones has also started a board to monitor agents and there patterns for
getting there players signed to a contract. They will not draft a player
whos agent has a history of long hold outs. Dallas is very bitter at Emmitt
Smiths agent because the contract they agreed to was offered in early
August but the agent held Emmitt out 3 more weeks for more money and didn't
get it. In fact I remember reading somewhere that Emmitt Smith slipped
to the 17th pick over all because of his agent (read: hes not considered
   reasonable at the bargaining table)

Alot of teams will also do as the Bears did this past year. This type of
approach should get rid of some of the slime agents who are thinking
commission and not the best for the player.

Signing 3 #1s will be tough, and I don't think they will try to sign
3 #1s next spring. I expect to see some trading come next draft or maybe
even before this years trade dead line.

Being a Cowboy fan now is a good time to set up the rookie pay scale.
It would be easier to wheel and deal if you know the bottom dollar
before hand. JJ has done alot with the Cowboys in his 18 months. He took
over a team with only one talented player (Herschel) and used it to the
fullest in obtaining draft position. He sacrificed last year for the
future. I feel he now has a better team than the one he inherited and he
has a real sweet draft position. His next task is to make use of the draft
picks to its fullest. Drafting Walsh was a mistake but he recovered from it.
It was a year to late but better late than never. If the 2nd round pick in
92 matures to a 1st round pick in 92, drafting Walsh could be considered
a good move. Time will tell, 1992 will be the year the JJ monster is
unleashed. I see a vision of dancing after every play, and I'll be requesting
them to pump up the volume. :-).

You are right their effort was not only dismal but also embarassing
esp. to us Cowboy fans who have to defend them. I have always
contended that if a player gets rewarded for having a good year he
should also get demoted (in salary, where it hurts) when they have an
off year or game. Jeery Jones (tm) would save a bundle this year.

They paid for it on Sunday vs. a team with a decent defense. IT will
    be extremely evident on Sunday.

Been out of the office since Oct 10. Can't believe the pounding
the Boys took from the Cards. Read that during the off week the
Cards changed there defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4 or maybe it was
the other way around. Cowboy offense was completely confused by
it and the team is so young it couldn't make the adjustments.

Cowboys fans have to wait, Aikman is in his second year, Emmitt
Smith and Highsmith have been Cowboys for 8 weeks, the WR's are
either rookies, new to the team, or missed most of last year due
to injury. The OL isn't as bad is it looks but they do need to
upgrade, Crawford Kerr has to get health. With Michael Irvin back
the offense will come around, give it time. The defense is holding
its own and there starting to produce sacks and turnovers.

Cowboys have 3 1st round picks (there own, Minn., New Orleans).
Looks like all 3 will be in the top 15 overall.

They should win 6 games this year, great improvement over last
     year.

Carlos, you wrote that whole note without mentioning that Mathis plays
for the Jets. From what I've seen, he represents a steal in the 7th
round. Good hands, fast, dynamic after he catches the ball, and runs
nice patterns. His drawback is that he's small, about 5'10" I'd say.
Looks like a great 3rd WR to along with Toon and Moore.

      Cowboys vs Jets:
Cowboys don't know how to score points, still looking for 6 wins

round 2, never showed up (wanted 1 money) and was traded to Cinci for a
starting LB (on CInci and the Jets) and a starting OT (Jets only).
Moore was supplemental, Mathis round 7, Dawkins 9 or 10. According to

Cowboys looked awful. Johnson has to let Aikman play wide open football.
The only time Aikman moves the team is when the offense is allowed to
open up. JJ is just protecting his QB from injury while the team rebuilds
the talent around him. I admit they don't have a chance of beating the
the 49ers so maybe JJ is right in what his doing but it is so frustrating.

Next up, Cowboy travel to Ram country. Rams are a good team without
direction. They might have a chance if Emmitt Smith carries the ball
15+ times and Aikman is allowed to play with a complete offense.

It sure feels good to win two in a row. Seeing them play on Turkey day
was the best I've felt watching the boys since 1985. The team really
shaped up real nice after the no-show loss to the 49ers 3 weeks ago.
The team took on a new look after a shouting match between Michael
Irvin and Troy Aikman whick took place in the locker room right after
the 49ers loss. Rumor has it that Aikman and Emmitt Smith complained
about the offense being to scaled down and felt the coaches (mainly
OC Dave Shula) was hurting the developement of the offense. Well Irvin
told Aikman to shut up and the only reason the offense was scaled down
was to protect Aikman from injury while the team is still young. Aikman
answered back saying he didn't want to be a protected player and wants
the handcuffs released so he could get the ball in the endzone. Irvin
snapped back and said if you want the ball in the endzone throw the ball
to me. In the last two games Irvin has scored 3 TD's.

Since the out burst Aikman has said the offense has opened up but since
the're executing a lot better now theres no need to use the wide open
offense. Troy and the boys grew up a lot after that loss to the 49ers.
The're 2-2 in the second half of the season if the can go 4-4, that would
leave them at 7-9 for the season. Maybe a little too early to say there
back but I think next year they may have a shot at playoff.

New Orleans And Phoenix are not the patriots but there not power
houses either. Dallas could easily make it 4 in a row which would
put them at 7-7 with 2 game left. I see them finishing at .500 for
the year and a possible playoff berth, its to early to tell. They
basically need a win this week and then wait and see what the other
wildcard teams do this week and next (during there bye week)....
The NFC picture should be pretty much set after week 15, the afc will

win 2 out of the last 3 to have a shot, all three are NFC and Phoenix
and Philly are both in ther division. A win this week combined with
how close they came to beeting Philly last time could give them enough

closeing game against Atlanta that still may be needed depending on

Cowboys fans shouldn't be thinking playoffs. This weeks game is very
important for them to win because they seem to have trouble with
Phoenix. There are better team than Phoenix and they should win games
    like this.

Next two weeks games against @Philly and @Atlanta should be real
interesting. They have to play them tough and come away injury free.
A mayor injury to any of there key young players could set the team
    back next year.

As for the draft, to far off to start talking trades. Trading for the
#1 pick overall usually costs to much and its not worth it. I don't
feel JJ will will trade for the #1 overall. Other than that anything
    can happen.

Alonso Hightsmith which cost the boys 2nd rnd pick in this coming draft
is doing fine. There was rumor that he might be added to the roster for
the Philly game, but JJ had decide to give Alonso the rest of the year
off. I don't think they have any free moves from the IR left so
Highsmith would have to clear waivers 1st to join the team. Highsmiths
knee injury has been the most mis-understood injury. The story now is
Alonso had minor surgery on his knee last may. Well after the surgery
he developed an infection in the knee and he spent some time in the
hospital and didn't get out until early June. He wasn't physically
ready to play. The report is his knee is sound and responded to rehab
nicely. The ankle injury he had was nothing serious and that too has
    healed.

but pretty sure. (some stat pro out there will let me know). ALso
the rams will proberbly lose tonight seeing that SF can clinch Home
field advantage with a win tonight. (oh well).

Sure makes nexted week's game with the Birds more interesting. After last's
years bad blood between these two I can't wait. Aikman has been good and
Eagles secondary can be had but can the dallas front line stop the birds'
 front 7?

Will JJ win coach of the year? he wins against the birds he just might...

JJ deserves COY regardless of how the Cowboys do vs the Beagles (tm).
He took a 1-15 team from last in 1989 to competing for a plyoff spot in
    just one year!!!!

The Cowboys' weaknesses are DL and OL and they will be quite evident
against Philly. Hopefully the offense can score on the Beagles'
secondary. Did anyone see the Luis Sharpe cheap shot on Washington
(Cowboys SS) ? Sharpe should be suspended for that kind of bulls###.

Congrats to the Cowboys on their GREAT improvement this year.

One of the pleasures of being a Giants fan has been the great
rivalry over the years between the two clubs. It's nice to see
the 'boys heading back in the right direction, because it'll
be nice to see this rivalry back on track.

You guys might even make the playoffs!

again, congrats....

It's great not only to see the Cowboys back to respectability but in
the thick of the playoff race. It sure has made the JJ critics quiet
down. I don't know if the can pull it off at Philly, but it should be
a good game. Even so, Dallas should still make the playoffs if they
can win their last game (at Atlanta?).

Aikman played a great game yesterday, and the lone interception wasn't
his fault. That pass just bounced off the receiver's chest. Emmitt
Smith's 11-yard TD run at the end of the 1st quarter was one nice run.

Johnson certainly is my front-runner for COY. I think Noll and Ryan
are up there too considering the way their teams started out the
season. Schottenheimer and Shell come to mind also.

You can't discount levy either who has opened up his offense this year.
True he should loose points for steal from Wcyhe but hey after many years
of conservatism he has changed his game. Also can't discount Siefert for
 keeping those dam niners focused...

I personally hope it's JJ after all the crap he's endure. I also hope
him and Buddy start swinging on sunday...

When do they vote on COY, is it before or after playoffs...Theres
lots of talk about the possiblities of dallas making the playoffs,
but what do people think about the Dallas AT Chicago Wildcard game
in week1 of the playoffs, with the way Chiago's been playing when
dallas does get there they have a very good chance at getting past
Chicago...IF this did happen I believe that they would then go out
to SF to meet the 49ers (the dallas parade will proberbly stop
there, I as a anti-49er and Dallas-fan cant even hope for this
much)...Oh, they will still have a great season and will be picking
up some top draft picks, I hope they sign all there draft picks, Id
hate to see any of there picks go to waste....Dallas a team of the
    90's.....

IF the cowboys make it to the first round of the play offs, I'd
say they have a VERY good chance to beat the bears. I expect
"Mellow Mike" Ditka to start bashing his team if they dont turn
    things around.

Chicago didnt seem to be playing that well all season, alot of last
minute wins over celler teams. Now I think there true colors are
starting to show. I also think that if dallas gets there (which they
should) they will beat chicago....Did SF and Dallas play this year

Dallas played the 49ers 5 weeks ago and the game was a disgrace. Dallas
looked awful. No offense at all, the defense played well.

If the Cowboys do face Chicago in the playoff beating the Bears will
tough. The playoff level football is a big step up from regular season
football and the Bears are a veteran playoff team.

    Reply a few back:
Best to my knowledge they have 3 #1's, 1 #2's, and 3 #3's in the next
draft. They might lose one of the #3's to Phoenix for TE Robert Awalt.
The trade for him was conditional. My latest Cowboy propaganda has JJ
saying there biggest need is defensive linemen and a cornerback, but
he said that last year and they drafted offensive players.

It's definitely a different level of play in the postseason. I heard
John Madden last night say that he thinks teams pick up level of play 2
or 3 notches in the playoffs. But I also think anything can happen in
the playoffs, like an 8-8 Clevescum team almost upsetting Miami in '85,
or New England winning 3 straight road games in the '85 playoffs, or
Pittsburgh nearly upsetting the Broncos in Denver last year, or the
Vikes beating SF handily in SF in '87, etc., etc.

Saw a interesting stat in yesterdays paper.
Emmit Rousin (sp?) is closing in on Tony dorsetts' rookie record for
    TDs.
Dorsetts record is 12 in 1977, Rousin has 11 with 2 games left.
The all time Dallas record is held by Bob Hayes with 13 in 1965.
