159.0. "SPORTS Vocabulary Note" by CAM::WAY (Regulators...Mount UP!) Wed Feb 14 1990 14:34

We used to have a vocabulary note in the old file.

Well, it's baaaaaaa---ck. Here's the inaugural entry:

TYSONIZE -- (v) To overextol the virtues of something, to the point
of making the accomplishment seem superhuman, and
insinuating that no other people could equal or better
	        them...

Example:

Al Michaels:	Smith hold the 15 best times in the world for
the 400 meter. The 16th fastest time isn't
even close. The man is unbeatable.

Frank Shorter:	True, Al, but we don't want to TYSONIZE(tm)
			Smith's accomplishments. Someday a runner
may be able to break the record....

RCASO -- v. To disappear suddenly, without a trace.

example:	The little girl's picture was on the
milk carton, since she had RCASOed
				several weeks earlier.

WHITSITT - (v)[fr. Whitsitt, B. president of Seattle Supersonics]
To trade something of value and get little or nothing
               in return.

Example - "Did you hear that the Bulls traded Jordan and Pippen to
              Miami for Jon Sundvold?"

"Boy, did the Bulls ever get WHITSITTED!"

Well, I'm in a strange mood, and was thinking of a note in one of
the previous editions of SPORTS, and there was a note that had
noters names ala Chris Berman (I'm in a Berman mood, today..).

I remember some, and others, well, here goes:

Frank "In Harms" Way (or Going my...)
    John Szabo "the Greek"
    Mark "Saturday Night" Lefebvre
Walt "Volcanic" Ashe (I think another was 'Pain in the...')
Jim Wardle "wobbles but he don't fall down"
    Mike 'Love' Childs
Jeff Needle "Little Love" or "In a Haystack"
    Lee "richard" timmons
    Don "Bille Jo" Robichaud
Bob "Sea" Hunt, or Bob "Mike" Hunt
    George "Babblin" Brooks
    Mike "Bud" Heiser
Rich "The man who would be" King
    John Devlin "Miss Jones"

For the last time, it's pronounced "Lefave", with a long "a" for
    you pre-schoolers.

Ergo, Mark "Saturday Night" Lefebvre makes about as much sense as
    teats on a bull.

Looks like Mark "Buck" Lafebvre and I have something in common.

He spells his name Lafebvre
	but it's pronounced Lafave.

I spell my name Johnston
	but it's pronounced Pozzlewaithe-Hornswoggle-Phtang

Funny how these things work, hey?
