| Subj: Something Else to do on Patriots Day
From Tom R...
=====================================================
>F.Y.I. - sent to my cousin.. Note 4/19 Old Colony event (as far as
>I know everything)...
>SPF
... There will be a Civil War reenactment, for
Patriot's Day, centered in and around Whitman, Mass just east
of Brockton. The basic info, as -verbally- relayed to me, is,
we [some 40 to 60 Bluebellies] will sleep overnight in the
Armory in town and be rudely awoken by 4:00 AM. We will fall in
on the town common and answer roll call using the names of the
original men in the 4th Massachusetts Infantry.
Then "they" will ring the town bells at 5:30 to wake everyone up ;^} and
we will march to the train depot, and inaugurating the return
of rail service to the Old Colony line, catch a 7:13 AM ( ?? )
first-ever train on this line since ??? and ride the train
into Boston, arriving at South Station around 8:30. Then we
will form company and march from South Station to Fanieul Hall
where we will be addressed by a direct descendant of Governor
Andrew.
We will march back to South Station, then return by train
to Whitman, and then do a Remembrance Ceremony at one (?) of the
cemeteries in Whitman, including a volley fired by a Honor Guard
squad... Word is the major metro media people will be out with
cameras & microphones so you may see me on the news. :-) I was
asked by a pard from the 5th New Hampshire to fall in with him
and 3 or 4 more of our guys, so I said sure... I need to get out
and do something like that...
Later,
Tom

Sounds a little mixed-up to me too. The location makes sense; it is quite
plausible that a Civil War regiment mustered somewhere around Brockton during
the Civil War and boarded a train for Boston.
BTW, the Old Colony commuter rail service won't start running for about a
year, so this event does NOT signal the start of service. It's nice, however,
to know that the tracks and signals are ready for "charter" runs. I would
be tempted to try to view this train on its return run, if I had nothing else
to do.

| I could be wrong, but i'd have thought there were at least 4 'Patriot's
Day's during the Civil War.
And its a leeeeetle tough to do Paul Revere by Rail.
AND (as i may not have made clear) the Civil War exercise is scheduled
for the Saturday of the Patriot's Day Weekend....
