3674.0. "Need TKZ60 & Windows NT Reference Customer" by MSDOA::16.179.16.37::WorkBench () Wed Feb 26 1997 22:08

Hello,

We have a customer who has stated that if we can provide
support for their 3480 tapes they will replace their IBM
system with no doubt.

We have enough elements to prove this is possible in "theory"
with the TKZ60 tape drive and the Digital Tape Interchange
Software (Windows NT).

They would like to be sure this will work, but we cannot prove
it until we buy the tape drive, right?

We urgently need a "happy" reference customer. Has anyone tried
this before?

I would greatly appreciate your help,

Katya Lopez

I don't know where your going to get a Windows NT driver for
the TKZ60 drive. Without a TKZ60 specific driver it will not work.

Digital Tape Interchange System V1.0 for Windows NT Alpha

HIGHLIGHTS

* Provides reel-to-reel and IBM 3480/3490/3490E tape support on Digital
   Alpha systems running Windows NT

* Provides ability to interchange tapes between IBM systems on
1600/6250BPI
reel-to-reel or IBM 3480/3490/3490E tape media

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Digital Tape Interchange System V1.0 for Windows NT Alpha is a broad
spectrum magnetic tape interchange software package that allows Digital
Alpha systems running Windows NT to read ANSI-labeled or IBM- labeled
tapes written by other vendors' systems. The software also permits
tapes
to be written by Digital Alpha systems running Windows NT in ANSI
labeled
or IBM labeled formats so they can be read by computers running other
operating systems, such as OpenVMS or IBM AIX. The Digital Tape
Interchange System V1.0 for Windows NT Alpha only supports the Digital
TSZ07 (1600/6250 BPI reel-to-reel) and the TKZ6x series (IBM
3480/3490/3490E compatible) tape drives.

Digital Tape Interchange System V1.0 enables users to

* Modify the operational and other characteristics of Digital TSZ07
(reel-to-reel) and TKZ6x (IBM 3480/3490/3490E) magnetic tape drives
prior
   to operation

* Report the operational status and other characteristics of TSZ07 and
TKZ6x magnetic tape drives prior to and during operation

* View the contents of a magnetic tape prior to processing

* Use a graphical user interface (GUI) to exercise the full complement
of
   interchange capabilities

BENEFITS

* Interchange data between Digital Alpha systems running Windows NT and
other vendors' systems on reel-to-reel or IBM 3480/3490/3490E tape
media

* Read and write custom and/or non-standard tapes

* Convert the contents of a magnetic tape to a different format

* Convert EBCDIC data to ASCII data and ASCII data to EBCDIC data
