3768.0. "TZ885 firmware update question(s)" by DECWET::montlake.zso.dec.com::lenox (I use mailx on unix, don't send mail w/ attachments) Wed May 28 1997 06:37

ok, I'm stuck trying to update the firmware in our
TZ885 to replicate a customer situation... so I grabbed
the image files (ver 52 aka 0x34) off of
subsys::lca:[specs.tape.tz88] and created an image disk
using a compac III tape, ltf and having set the front panel
to use 10 without compression. (later I tried with
compression but still get the err unk). I followed the
manual's steps for loading the tape with the image.
Does the TZ885 drive need an image file which isn't in
the directory above? Is V52 image ok? I admit that
initially I lost something via the copy but on the second
try used spool copy from vms to vms and then ftped the
binary (mode set appropriately) to a unix box. The fileis
589824 bytes which is 4096 * 144 (which looks like the
appropriate size). Should I only be doing this with a
compac IV tape? I suspect something small and minor
isn't right but I'm not sure what it is.

There is nothing wrong with the files in that directory. Why don't you create
this on the VMS system instead of copying it all over the place.

If I had a VMS system, I'm sure I would be creating it on
VMS. This humor about the direction the company is
going in notwithstanding...

To be perfectly frank, I'd rather have a way to create
the upgrade tape on NT, because that is the system the
customer has a problem on, that is the system I originally
had it hooked up to, that is the system I will be working
on more of in the future.

The alternate of using scu to download the image isn't
available unless someone knows how I can close the
drive door without a tape in it (on the TZ885 the drive is
somewhat inaccessible).

thanks,

Amy Lenox

binary ftp is not as good as nfs apparently, copying the files
from someone else's vms system via nfs works ok.

diff doesn't show any difference between the files, very
odd.
