3707.0. "TL826 SCSI connected to two systems in cluster?" by BIGCHZ::EZZELL (Mike Ezzell) Tue Apr 01 1997 02:48

I have a customer that is planning on using an HSJ50 to connect a TL826 to
their CI cluster so that the TL826 can be shared by both nodes in the cluster.

I was wondering if they could connect three of the six TZ88s in the TL826
directly to each node with SCSI. Would this work? It would seem to be a
faster and less expensive option. I also understand that the TL826 will be
upgradable to DS-TL896 (TZ89). Wouldn't this need FW SCSI to reach its
performance potential?

re: Splitting tape between nodes in a cluster.

You can do it. The question to ask is whether the software you
plan to use supports it. Assuming this was written after the
notes about tapes on shared SCSI busses (bad, very bad), MRU
and OpenVMS BACKUP shouldn't have any trouble with it. The
OpenVMS layered products built around MDMS? That's a question
you'll have to ask of the people who maintain it.

re: Fast/Wide SCSI with DLT7000 family tape drives that we may
or may not be calling the TZ89 depending on when an announcement
might be, which is not say with certainty one way or the other
	whether there will be one...

	From what I've heard, yes.
