3634.0. "Tl820 sensor P/N ?" by SCASS1::BROGDON () Mon Jan 27 1997 20:46

    Hello,

    	I need the part # for the led emitter and sensors that are
    located on the pass-through mechanism on a TL820 tape drive I have had
    to replace the entire unit just for a failing sensor and I would
    like to replace just the sensor to save time and money .
    		Thanks,
    			Robert Brogdon , MVCS

3634.1Not every serviceable part is an FRU...SUBSYS::TRANStraight <Left> Hitter..Mon Jan 27 1997 23:186

    Currently there is no FRU for sensor you request. Service would have to
    stock a lot of parts if we breakdown and make every part in TL820 an
    FRU.

3634.2how about a vendor p/n ?SCASS1::BROGDONTue Jan 28 1997 02:0911
    T,

    	I have 4 TL820's on 1 of my sites and it takes 4 to 7 days to
    get a replacement PTM from logistics. Is there a Odectics p/n for the
    sensors?. I could have logistics order a few directly from Odectics
    and keep them onsite . I have had several sensor failures on these
    units.

    			Thanks,

    That's very unusual that you have that many sensor failure, I would ask
    you to contact support eng. Stan Jenereski at SUBSYS::JENERESKI to
    investigate this. As far as PTM goes the new gateless PTM may work
    better for you (cut-in long time ago).

3634.4failure ratesSCASS1::BROGDONWed Jan 29 1997 21:277
    T.
    	I have had about 3 failures on 4 units in about a year and half
    I don't know if that is a excessive amount of failures or not but
    waiting a week for parts is..

     This is the first that I have heard of this problem, then again there
    is a first to everything.

     Currently we are waiting for the total part consumption for the
    TL820's from the vendor and when this is received we should be
    able to see if there is a trend in this area or any other area.

     In the meantime if this should occur again please log an IPMT case
    and return the part to engineering for F/A. The address will be posted
    in the case.
