I'm a neophyte when it comes to perl and web page creation but I'll
    contribute what I can.

I learned of a book which is sheparding me thru my first project,
"Using Perl 5 for Web Programming" by David Harlan, Shelley Powers,
Paul Doyle and Micheal O Foghlu. Published by QUE corporation,
    ISBN:0-7897-0659-8.

A bit pricey (~$50.00) but it comes with a CD-ROM that includes
2 other books in HTML format "Special Edition Using CGI" and "...Using
HTML". (Helps to have a CD reader of course, but I digress...)

It is chock full of detailed instruction in creating perl scripts.

I found my edition at Borders.

perl.com has critiques of various books.

See: http://www.perl.com/perl/critiques/index.html

My favorite is still the Camel book.
