558.12Bruin questionsTIMAST::HUGHESMon Feb 10 1997 19:2016
    The Blues and Bruins tied on Saturday afternoon in Boston. I only saw
    the 1st half of the game and I thought that Fuhr was so good, the B's
    didn't have a chance. I guess I was wrong.

    I do have a question for the B's fans though. Where does the name "The
    Fleet Center" come from. My wife said it must come from the company that
    makes enemas. They wouldn't do that to you poor B fans, would they
    :-)???

    One more thing. I read that Adam Oates said he won't report to another
    team unless they renegotiate his contract. This guy has to be the
    career leader in renegotiated contracts. What do the B fans think about
    this. Adam Oates is a great hockey player but, I don't have much
    respect for someone that can't live up to the contract he signed.

    Dave,
    	I think the Fleet is some bank. Not sure.

    As for Oates wanting to renegociate; he says that in Boston he's under
    the 'Ray Bourque' salary cap (no one should make more than Ray B) and
    he appears to agree w/ that. BUT, if he's traded, the 'cap'(?) no
    longer applies.

    go figure eh!

558.15The Fleece Center (Expensive - BUT nice)PATE::NEFFjust doin' the Mad Ticker...Mon Feb 10 1997 21:0010
Yup, the Fleet center is named after the Fleet Bank... But nobody around
here refers to it as that. It is either called the Gahden or the Fleece
Center.

As far as Oates - I just wish we had someone that could play with him.

    ...or Jack Parker, BU Coach....the way the papers are reporting about
    him, he seems to be in the lead....Jack would be a perfect fit with a
    young team, IMHO...but he's got ALOT to lose in the respect department
    if he takes the job, then doesn't coach to the already-lofty standards
    he's set for himself at BU..

    oh well....THANK GOD Kasper's gone!!!!!

         to be paid too much for sinbins liking.

    Looks like Pat Burns will be the Bruins next coach.

558.23coaching jobs are filling up....slowlyKAOFS::WATTERSWed May 21 1997 18:2319
    Heard Burns told Houle that 3 other teams seemed more interested and
    that he'd be entertaining offers soon.

    Meanwhile, Alain Vigneault has quit his coaching job w/ the Beauport
    (Quebec City) Jr team. Apparently he's already got an offer from the
    Isles to go work w/ Bowness again but the Habs still don't have a
    coach and Burns is now out of the picture.

    Looks like the Habs will either go w/ Hartley (Avs minor league coach)
    or Vigneault.

    There's tons of vacant coaching jobs this year. Add to that, the 2
    expansion teams (most likely Houston and Nashville) will have til Sept
    to hire a coach and GM for their inaugural season (1998-99).

    Too bad I still consider myself a pretty good player cause I'd apply
    for one of those (alone in my little world again). :*)

 According to ESPN and all the reports in the local papers....

  Burns is getting $2 mil over 4 years......

    Burns, who removed himself from consideration for the vacant Montreal
   head coaching position to pursue the Boston job, signed a four-year
   contract worth an estimated $2 million.

    that has got to piss off a few Habs fans, the best coach they have had
    in recent memory goes to, of all places, the Bruins! Burns is getting
    farther and farther from the Gatineau Police Force...

    I really like this.... an ex-Hab too.... it'll make it that
    much better when the Bruins win the division, conference & Cup!
    (hey I can dream can't I  8-)  )
    I wonder if we can draft both Thornton & the goalie???
    still need a darien hatcher on the blueline
