"We also find it curious that they are asking for damages from
a company that BUYS products from them."

DIGITAL is <1% of Intel's revenue, Intel is about 25% of
DIGITAL's revenue. What's so curious about Intel obliging
to carry out DIGITAL's desire to shoot itself in the feet?

I suppose with Digital "not be mentioned" seems to be standard part of
many deals. With Sun, IBM and HP, customers are not ashamed to admit
their association with their vendor of choice. There is significantly
more positive collateral publicity to these vendors.

"We are forced to use Digital but would prefer not to" seems to be
the damning indictment and probably a significant rationale for our
    saddened state of affairs.

No, Intel also uses IBM, HP, and to a lesser extent Sun, and has asked
those vendors not to publicize the fact. It's their company policy.
They recently beat the crap out of Lotus for saying that Intel's
factories couldn't run without Notes (not true in any sense) in a
advertisement without Intel's permission. They are now moving off of
Lotus' cc:mail.

I find it curious that we are asking for damages from a company that BUYS products
from us!

Remember, Intel is both a vendor *and* a customer of Digital, in the same way
Digital is a vendor *and* a customer of Intel.

Intel also sells Digital devices that go into Alpha Systems. They
    could make life very interesting.

Yeah, when I was upgrading the firmware of my DIGITAL UNIX workstation I was
suprised to learn I was loading an Intel chip.

Most newer Alpha systems have migrated to using different PCI-LegacyBus
bridge chip such as one made by Cypress CY82C693.

However, that decision was taken many many months ago. The rumor has
it that Intel did not like people using subset of their PCI chipsets.

There is a difference. The damages Intel is asking for relate to information
pertaining to the products they sell us. The damages Digital asks from
Intel is UNRELATED to information we provide them about products we sell
them.

I think your emphasis should be on SELL not UNRELATED. We have supposedly
provided Intel with information as part of business discussions. So the
lawsuit relates to information we would have *liked* to sell, but never did.

Mr Moderator, please shut down these threads related to the lawsuits.

It is not necessary or desirable to increase the amount of data and the number of
