The moderators of the CLASSIFIED_ADS Notes conference are pleased to announce
the Classified Ads newsgroup!

The new Classified Ads newsgroup can be used by anyone, and like the Notes
conference, will be available on the DIGITAL Easynet only. The name of the
newsgroup is

	dec.classified-ads

Q: Why is the Classified Ads newsgroup being created?

A: Many DIGITAL employees now enter Notes from PCs that change their
network name and address every time they are booted. Because Notes
keeps track of authors by your system's name or address, those without
a permanent address often cannot modify or delete their own notes.
A moderator must then take time to manually delete such notes.

Q: How is the newsgroup different from the Notes conference?

A: Newsgroups differ from Notes conferences in that articles posted
automatically expire after some number of days. While it is possible to
cancel or supersede an article, it is probably not worth doing so
because the article will expire after one to two weeks. You can also
post a followup article if the status of your original article changes.

Q: Will my ad be posted to both the Notes conference and the newsgroup?

A: No. There will be no cross-posting of notes or articles between the
    Notes conference and the newsgroup.

Q: Who should use the Notes conference and who should use the newsgroup?

Those accessing Notes directly from their PC with programs such as
NetNotes and TeamLinks Conferencing should use the newsgroup.

Users accessing Notes directly from OpenVMS and Unix systems can use
either the Notes conference or the newsgroup.

PC users accessing Notes in a terminal emulator window or with an X
Window server such as eXcursion are running DEC Notes on OpenVMS or
Unix, and therefore can use either the Notes conference or the
    newsgroup.

Q: How do I access the newsgroup?

A: Browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer
have the ability to access newsgroups. There are also other news
    reader programs available.

Set up your browser or news reader to point to a news server close to
you. A list of news servers is posted in note 95.LAST in the
    conference HUMANE::NEWS_BACKBONE or news_backbone@humane.mro.dec.com .
For example, if you are using Navigator, choose "Options," "Mail and
News Preferences" and "Servers" to specify a news server.

Use your browser's or news reader's online help for further assistance
    in accessing news groups.
