This note has made me feel better about my decision, on Tuesday I put
my wonderful shepard mix to sleep. Though he was almost 16 he was
basicly in good health, but his hind legs were getting so week he
could only make the shortest stair climb, and then sometimes he
slipped trying to pull himself up with his front legs. Monday he had
real trouble even walking after being outside, I don't know if he fell
or something but I carried him in and out that afternoon, night and the
next morning. He seemed to be telling me that that it was time.
I made an appointment for that evening, and though he was walking better
in his usual stiff legged way and even made it up the stairs, I took him
anyway. I've been tormenting myself ever since that I should have
waited, he might have been ok, I should have waited til he stopped
eatting or couldn't walk at all ever, who was I to make such a
descision? This note has helped me some, it's a very painful thing.

Sharon - try not to be hard on yourself - what you did was an act
of love... Having gone through this more than once, I have a pretty
good idea of what you're feeling.

I firmly believe believe we have a responsibility to our pets to
ensure that when the quality of their life has deteriorated - we will
not let them continue to suffer.
