6749.0. "HSZ50 console messages / translations" by RDGENG::rasmodem17.reo.dec.com::ATTWOOL (..get up now, and lets start guessing) Wed Jun 04 1997 15:20

Are the HSZ50 console messages available online ( in a 'C' header
file, if possible ), I'm working on a customer project with British
Telecom who require a list of possible messages that could appear on
the HSZ50 terminal. The intention is that they/we could select the
ones that are important to them and use these for monitoring
purposes.

I have some messages from the HSZ10 but I would guess that these hav
e changed/altered, if not new messages added.

For instance they are interested if it is possible to detect write
cache failures, that don't stop the controller but instead cause a
performance hit. Also any other non-dead stop failures.

If anyone can supply a contact of where to start I would be
grateful.

Not that I know of. The HSZ50 is VERY different in the messages it produces
since it was not generated from the same code as the HSZ10. I don't think
that you will get the kind of messages you are looking for.
6749.2event codes even ?RDGENG::rasmodem10.reo.dec.com::ATTWOOL..get up now, and lets start guessingThu Jun 05 1997 05:1123

In what way might I not get the messages I'm looking for ? How else
does the HSZ50 notify errors ? I managed to find one to a have little
play around, creating sets, pulling disks, watching them failover
etc.. These did seem to generate a number of events/blocks of events
that we could use to capture, feed into Console Manager and notify
monitoring staff of a failure/correction. But I need to have a list
of the event codes and/or text that is associated with them.

From looking at the HSZ10 info I have there were messages regarding,
Controller failures, Fan failures etc... I noticed from "playing"
that the console when I restarted the "other" controller a message
was displayed on the screen. I just wondered about the others.

If you think that this is the wrong method to monitor these devices
within a lights out environment what should be used that will provide
BT staff with a "monitoring" tool.

6749.3DECevent and SICL??KERNEL::LOANEComfortably numb!!Thu Jun 05 1997 06:112
What you should consider is DECevent with SICL call logging; this
should notify your customer of significant events.
