Well, It took a bit longer than a month, but here's the broader
announcement. The CIPCA-BA is a CIPCA on 2 PCI modules, the CIPCA-AA
of course is a CIPCA on 1 PCI plus an 1 EISA module. The '-AA and '-BA
are transparent to OpenVMS, and can be mixed in whatever combinations you
need to fill up your customer needs to fill his empty slots..
Please note the fine print that says V6.2-1H2/1H3 still only supports
10 CIPCAs on 8200/8400. Lots of thanks to the Revenue Systems
Engineering & STE team that helped make this greatly expanded configuration
supportable.

Now, SELL, SELL, SELL...

SUBJ:	CIPCA NOW SUPPORTS UP TO 26 ADAPTERS ON THE AS8200/AS8400 SYSTEMS:

	STATEMENT OF SUPPORT:

Revenue Systems Engineering now Supports up to 26 Adapters:

CIPCA-BA OR CIPCA-AA - PCI to CI Adapters

On the AS8200 and AS8400 Systems.

Maximum Allowed per DWLPA/DWLPB Shelf: 4

	Maximum Allowed per System: 26

Minimum SRM Console Version Tested: V4.1-6

Minimum Shippable Option H/W Revision Tested: A01

Minimum Shippable Option F/W Revision Tested: A315

Minimum Operating System Version Required: VMS V7.1 (6)

	Please Note:

	1. Cluster environment must conform to restrictions of CIPCA/VMS
cluster operation as documented in the V6.2-1H3 release notes.

	2. It is recommended that the intermodule ribbon cables should
always be dressed to lay over the module handles. Not stuffed
	    in between modules.

	3. This adapter is functionally equivalent to the CIPCA-AA. The
CIPCA-AA variant is a two module option, one EISA module and
one PCI. The CIPCA-BA is also a two module option; but both
	    modules are PCI.

	4. CIPCA-BA First Revenue Shipment is scheduled for April 7, 1997.
The CIPCA-AA is a currently shipping product.

	5. Please be aware that there are only five CPU backplane slots
available in the AS8200. To reach the maximum of 26 adapters
in the AS8200 platform would require two KFTHAs and may limit
the system's connectivity at this point.

	6. Please note that up to 26 adapters is supported with VMS V7.1
or greater. VMS V6.2-1H3 still supports a maximum of 10
	    CIPCA-AAs or CIPCA-BAs.

4871.7TEXT version of CPCA-BA & Expanded CIPCA configs Sales UpdateSTAR::BOAENLANclusters/VMScluster Tech. OfficeFri Apr 25 1997 19:5396
The following is a text version of the Sales Update article that went
out a few weeks ago announcing the new CIPCA-BA and support for increased
numbers of CIPCAs system for many host system models under both
OpenVMS V6.2-1H3 and V7.1.

Sorry to be slow in posting this, I thought it had already been posted.

CIPCA PCI-to-CI Storage Host Adapter for OpenVMS Systems
--------------------------------------------------------
The CIPCA is a PCI-to-CI storage host bus adapter which allows users to
connect their existing CI-based storage to high-performance PCI-based
AlphaServer systems. The CIPCA allows users to include the latest Alpha
based servers within an existing OpenVMS Cluster, thereby taking advantage
of servers offering the best price performance while maintaining previous
investments in storage subsystems. The CIPCA is the only product
available on the market that allows PCI to CI connectivity and increases
the performance of the CI with support for 4k packet.

Features
--------
CIPCA is supported using the current OpenVMS Cluster Software configuration
rules. The standard CI node count restrictions that apply to the CIPCA are
as follows:

Up to and including 16 CI host systems

Up to and including 16 CI Hierarchical Storage Controllers

Up to and including 32 CI products/Star Coupler (16 without CISCE)

Up to and including 96 OpenVMS Cluster member systems

Supported CIPCA host systems:
AlphaServer Systems 8400, 8200, 4100, 4000, 2100A, 2100, and 2000 running
OpenVMS V6.2-1H3 or OpenVMS V7.1.

Supported CI connected hosts:
Any OpenVMS VAX host using CIXCD or CIBCA-B
or OpenVMS Alpha serving using the CIPCA-AA or CIPCA-BA

CI hierarchical storage controllers supported:
HSJ30/40 with StorageWorks HSOF V2.5 or higher
All HSC devices except HSC50

CI host adapters supported:
CIXCD, CIBCA-B, and CISCE (CISCE is no longer available; however existing installations are supported)

OpenVMS VAX and Alpha versions:
Standard "warrantied" and "migration" pairings for mixed
architecture/version clusters apply. Please refer to OpenVMS Cluster
Software Product Description (SPD 29.78) for full details. CIPCA is
supported only on OpenVMS, not on Digital UNIX or Windows NT.

The CIPCA requires one of the following additional configuration dependent
CI cables:
BNCIA-10 CI cable 10 M Length
BNCIA-20 CI cable 20 M Length
BNCIA-45 CI cable 45 M Length

Configuration Rules"
Please refer to the system specific portion of the System and Options Catalog for additional configuration
information.

Both the CIPCA-AA and CIPCA-BA are designed as two board options:

The CIPCA-AA requires one PCI backplane slot and one EISA backplane
slot.Older systems that have a limited number of PCI slots should
generally continue to utilize the CIPCA-AA.

The CIPCA-BA requires two PCI slots. The CIPCA-BA is intended for newer
servers that have a limited number of EISA slots.

The maximum of CIPCAs that can be configured within a system is dependent
upon the system, the available number of EISA and PCI slots, the
combination of model(s) of CIPCA selected, as well as other system
options.

Maximum Number of CIPCAs supported per System
