I have to put a couple of decals on my van that are essentially
individual "letters". The decal comes sandwiched between 2 pieces
of non-stick paper. You peel the "sticky" side off first, revealing
the letters "backwards", still adhered to the other piece of paper.
You then place the whole thing on the car, and once "stuck into
place, you peel the other piece of paper and you have the letters
on the car (obviously the outside piece of paper holds 'em all at
the right place so you stick 'em all on at once).

Now, I've tried this before with a smaller decal, and gotten a
few bubbles in the process. On other decals (without the
other piece of paper) I've used the "soap and water" in a spray
bottle method, was able to move the decals around and get the bubbles
out for a really nice result (old Z28). I'd figure this would work
on my current situation - but the fact that they're stuck to another
piece of paper leaves me puzzled. Since to remove the paper you
have to rely upon the letters stuck to the car - how do you determine
when the letters are "stuck" and not still floating on a layer of
water/soap, even after squeegieing (sp?) it out? I'd hate to get this
nice and flat and straight, and then pull the paper off only to have
the letters come along for the ride. Any advice would be appreciated.

    thanks,
    andy

I had to have a decal replaced on my truck and it also had
the 2 pieces of paper. The body shop guy still used the
soapy water method and it worked well.

554.53One more question...ZEKE::ASCHNEIDERAndy Schneider - DTN 381-1696Tue May 06 1997 18:2612
Ah - glad to hear they use the soap method - but the $64K question
is - once you squeegie out the decal, do you remove the covering
paper right away, or do you give it time to dry out first to make
    sure the decals will stick??

BTW - found a place on the web that does decals for muscle
cars - sent them e-mail and they're graciously sending me their
instruction package even though I'm not buying.

    thanks,
    andy
