If you're not concerned with "authentic" ... you could swap the *motor* for a
small-block Chev. (400, 350, etc) ... lose a lot of weight off the front end and
open the door to *all sorts* of options, including the O.D. tranny ... factory
fuel injection, electronic or distributorless ignition, etc, etc.

FWIW ... I'm looking at replacing the TH350 in my '74 Camaro with a late-model
automatic w/ O.D. ... same reasons - lower low-end *and* higher top-end at lower
RPM.
