    I have put a deposit down on a 1996 Legacy L AWD sedan this weekend.
    Can anyone comment on the 96 Legacy AWD sedan...I know that consumer 
    reportrates them as a reccomended buy.
    
    
    Do these cars have stainless steel exhaust ?
    
    Any comments about this year/model would be appreciated.

If you can answer the question, answer it.  Who cares about the deposit.  The 
note doesn't mention whether it is or is not refundable.  SLAB, you have an

    I will be doing pads and rotors on a 1988 Subaru this weekend. Is there
    anything I should know that is different from an american car?
    
    Also, as the parking brake is on the front, I understand that there is
    a ratcheting mechanism on it that must be reset to install the new
    pads. How does one do this?

    You have to turn the caliper piston "back in". If I remember correctly,
    it goes in clockwise. You need a piston turning tool. I have a Ford
    tool that I've used on Subes, Acura's, Ford's, etc.

    A 3/8" socket ratchet works on some cars.  It did on the VWs.  Just the
    square drive part of the socket though.

    It's a large slot, so a socket drive won't work on Subarus. My
    experience is that the pistons don't turn very easily; you're pushing
    fluid back, and there's the friction of the rubber seals and boot.

    I used the end of a tire iron on a Sube and a the head of a
    turned down bolt for the rear calipers on my V double you.

    I'm sure you can get creative and find something laying around that
    will work, but the KD tool only costs a few bucks and works well, can
    be cranked with a 1/2 inch drive.

if the tool fits in two slots, use a small piece of barstock or a nail
crossways in a pair of vicegrips to make a wide screwdriver.
the head  of the nail can help hold the tool in place.
that is faster than going to the store.

My s-i-l just bought a 1997 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport and she wants me
to install some fog lights.  Has anyone poked around under the front bumper
of one of these?  Is it all plastic or is there some metal to bolt the
lights through?
