My wife is looking for a shop in the Nashua, NH area that she can take her '90
Sable wagon (120K or so) to to have it evaluated/inspected (not the state
inspection, a REAL inspection).  This is not a "quick favor" but rather we want
to pay the shop to spend some time looking at it. We are trying to decide if it
can go another year.  I have always hated this car, so I am not a good judge. 
However, I'm concerned about rust (not visible rust, but the kind that makes it
more likely to be a death trap in an accident) and mechanical (the power
steering has always sounded weird, and I sometimes notice a weird coolant-like
smell but can never find anything).

I trust the Ford dealer in Nashua about as far as I can throw the Sable.

Any other ideas?

    recommended him.  The owner's name is Danny, phone number is 429-1002.  
    Good, honest, friendly service.  I bought my truck two years ago, 
    brought it to him to have it checked out, he took it for the day and 
    went through it from bumper to bumper and told me of any and all 
    good/bad points. One thing that impresses me is that he will tell you
    if something should be repaired/replaced right now,  or if it is OK for
    now but should be checked again a little later.  Other places I've
    been to in the past will simply tell you it needs to be done NOW so
    they can get your $$$.

    on this noise in my Neon?

    Specifically ask them to look at the tie rods and half shafts. I've had
    to replace the front end parts of my 89 Taurus (wagon) twice already
    with only 107k miles.
