3071.0. "Year 2000 compliant ...yet again..." by GIDDAY::REID (David Reid,CSC,Sydney DTN 730-7233) Fri Mar 21 1997 03:44

As was asked in 2851.0 and 2851.1..

Can we get a definitive statement on DEC/EDI and 2000 compliance.

Note 2765.1 infers that we are covered with EDIFACT....

" In the business data part of an EDIFACT UNSM, the date formats
supported are extremely large, and cater for explicit centuaries as
     well as implied centuaries."

What about X12???

No great urgency...but Customer needs for their implementation documment.

thanks,

While we can not guarantee that current versions of X12 are Year 2000 safe
we know of no reasons why they are not.

We are comitted to making DEC/EDI year 2000 safe before the year 2000 and
have a stratergy in place to ensure that this happen.

I do not know the surrent status of the standards supported by DEC/EDI, I
do know however that they are taking steps to ensure that they will be safe
by the year 2000.

Greetings all you EDI folks - I haven't put a note in here
for years, it seems.

Anyway - just a trivial point following on from Barrie's reply -
I've heard there's legislation on the way which will require
applications to be Y2K compliant by January 1st 1999 - this is
in order to give them time to stabilise prior to the change
in millenium a year later. It's still some way off - but quickly
approaching. So, I think that DEC/EDI, in common with all our
other products, has 18 months or so to get ready.

Good luck - I know how much code you've got to go through!
