3051.0. "Oracle7 More Table Spaces?" by SCASS1::HARRISON (Systems Integration - EDI) Wed Mar 12 1997 18:53

    Hi,

    A customer called today wanting to create more Oracle7 table spaces for
    the DEC/EDI database instance. Is there a problem with the customer
    doing this? Are there any problems with the decedi_config dump/load
    after this is done? Are there any other issues that would cause the
    recommendation to be 'no'?

    Thanks,

Hi Don,

Just have a look at the DEC/EDI V3.1A user guide page 16-12 "Changing the size
of your Oracle7 database.

3051.2More tablespaces?SCASS1::HARRISONSystems Integration - EDIWed Mar 12 1997 22:2910
    Martin,

    The customer wants to specifically add another (or additional)
    tablespaces than just the MINDEX tablespace. Extending the database as
    described in the manual is no problem (they have already done this).

    Can additional tablespaces be created and tables reallocated
    accordingly (and still be supported within the DEC/EDI environment?).

3051.3May cause problems down the lineMETSYS::HELLIARhttp://samedi.reo.dec.com/Thu Mar 13 1997 11:0111
    Don,

    We create tables and indexes in SPECIFIC tablespeaces. Any future
    version migration scripts MIGHT rely on that fact. So, unless the
    customer has some real reason as to why there need to be multiple
    tablespaces then I'd leave well alone.

    V3.1A Backup and restore do a complete oracle database dump or load, so
    the actual tablespaces involved should be irrelevant.
