1632.10Same EXACT Problem on 91 RangerBSS::G_MCINTOSHTouch Not the Cat, Bot the GloveFri Feb 07 1997 17:1315

    Henry, I have this EXACT problem on my 91 Ranger. The amp needle works
    about 30% of the time, the rest of the times it's pegged below 8.

    I haven't tried the hit to the dash, but I may. I suspect it's either
    the needle guage itself, or, I was told there's a circuit board behind
    it and it could be that. I'm waiting for the weather to warm and then
    was going to take off the instrument panel, etc. and reseat the
    connections and see if that helps.

    If you have more information let me know.

    Thanks......Glenn

    The smack on top of the dash did, indeed, work for me too. Still
    working this problem.

    If it is the guage itself, the combination Voltage Guage/Temp Guage
    costs $82.12 here in Colo Spgs and is a "special order" item. FYI.

1632.12back to the dealer....SSDEVO::TOWNEMon Feb 10 1997 18:216
    the beat goes on....... i'm taking the guage problem back to the
    dealership tomorrow. i had reported the problem BEFORE i bought the
    vehicle. they say that they are going to make it RIGHT. i'll keep
    you posted on the outcome.....

    thanx..... Henry (used Explorer purchased from Pikes Peak Acura)
1632.13Replace the guage...SSDEVO::TOWNEWed Feb 12 1997 11:4415
    It turns out that the dealership element of Pikes Peak Acura will not
    honor the work that they did on the guage.  Let me rephrase that;
    their previous work revolved around repair whereas this case requires
    that the guage be replaced.

    They said that the repair/replacement cost to me would be about $185.
    I think i'll continue to hit the dash for a while.

    I have the Chilton and Haynes manuals; sounds like study-time. I'm
    sure the dash comes off.

    Voltmeter; it's only a convienence.....

    thanx for (all of) your help
    Henry
