Conference ssdevo::4wd

Can anyone make a trip one day next week after lunch?  There are 2 of
us here (LKG) who are going to take an afternoon off and wander off to
Templeton.  Right now we are thinking of Thursday (13-March) but could
change the day if asked.  Ill be out for the rest of the week - we plan
to make a definite decision on Monday  (10th.)

Looks like Thursday is the best day for us, so we'll make a go of it then.

12:30 in the lkg parking lot is our tentative time.  Anyone who wants to
join us is welcome.

Well, we made it back ok.  We left about 10 minutes late since my coworker
is in support, and had to respond to a customer call.  It just meant I got
to eat my grapefruit in the lobby, instead of the truck....

I had a bit  of a tough time finding the place again, went the wrong way
off the exit the first time, and then had a false start towards what appeared
to be a working mine/gravel pit, but eventually found it ok.  Lots of snow
and ice.  Seems like snowmobiles are a common mode of transit out that way.
There were several tracks from trucks and motorcycles too.  We saw 1 other
truck (man with dog) and a runner (who gave us helpful directions) while
adventuring.  The mud puddle of doom was completely filled with ice.  I
did check before venturing across for signs of other vehicles, and finding
a few tracks, crossed myself.  My buddy had an izuzu, so was no problem after
my ram made it ok.  Since everything was snow or ice covered (and my lack
of local knowledge) we stuck to the very well established trails and did
not venture very far.  One trail we started down had been eroded so bad it
looked no longer passable by vehicle.

Next time out I would like to explore the Southeast and East (I think)
sections, as well as the North or Northwest area.  It appears there is
tons of land, but not too much passable by vehicle due to erosion :(

Some trees had markers on them talking about a cross country course.  I am
not sure if they meant running or driving or riding or ...  There was an
acronym too, but I cant remember it now.

We had fun, and would like to try again in a few months, maybe May?  When
does mud season end in that area?
