I'll try to keep this short! ;^)

Hi, I'm Kevin Farley and at the present time, I guess I'm the only
vocal Saint John's Redmen fan. (Phil, where are you???)

I'm sorta the Social secretary here, I keep home #'s and addresses of
    our dearly TFSO'd (bummer).

    Present Work Stuff:

I work on the Competitive Hotline and am based in MRO1.

    PERSONAL STUFF:

Presently married (almost 20 years......., same one too! One 9 year
    old boy child (Greg)
We have a dawg named Digger who has a few dietary idiosynchracies - he eats
pallets, socks, golfballs, turf, tree branches, kleenex-type tissues
    and other "goat-like" things.
We have other pets but they don't have the same "oddities" worth
    mentioning.

Been at DEC 5+ years. Jan 22 is my last day at DEC. I got a job in
Kentucky. (UK #1 !!!) Most of you don't know me. I've been a mostly
read only noter. 'Saw knows me well cuz we work together. I mave
piped up a few times in notes to talk about Buffalo sports, me being
    from there and all.

Likes : The Bills, Sabres, Bisons (Pirates AAA team)
Homebrewing (I am determined to get back into it in KY)
my wife and three kids (Ryan (7), Rachel (3), Becky(1))

Dislikes : Dolphins, Jets, Oilers, Bruins.

So since I'm a short timer, I'll probably be in the notes a little more
    often.

One thing to note: I did predict a while back in the old Sports_91
that the Bills and 49ers would meet in the Super Bowl. I still hold to
that. I will make a further prediction: The Bills will win! They did
go undefeated against the NFC West this year.

Another prediction I'm still holding to, but a little less confidently
is that the Sabres will win the Adams division.

Avid participant in water-skiing (went about 90 times last year),
      tennis, golf, skiing and running.

Dislikes: When people put apostrophes in their team names (Bronco's,
49er's, etc), people who can spell "lose", or "definitely". People
who continually point out the rules in golf, especially informing
you when your shot is OB when you can see it sailing into the woods.

Introducing :

	Cameron ???? Ross, 6 lb 9 oz born today at 12:20 p.m.
He joins Michael and Marilyn in the Ross family. Looks
like a point guard. Dribbles well to his left. Initial
visit by IU representative expected next week. UNC need not
	apply.

We haven't decided on the middle name... I suggested "Indoor Stadium,"
but was denied. "Knight" was rejected as well.

Anyway, 'Ptooee'is the last thing an ex-girlfriend called me, so out of

OK. Since the previous note was such a roaring success, here we go
with the goodies. I left you all in September 1991 and wobbled home to
Canada for a few months. Then I came back to Switzerland to get my
money and set sail for Thailand.

There I ended up liking a little hotel so much that I bought the lease
on it together with a perverted English milkman (you know all about
milk and mail men). The address is:

All Nations Guest House, Bar, and Restaurant
    P.O. Box 56
    77110 Hua Hin Thailand
Phone/Fax: (66)-32-513781 (as of beginning October)
    Attn: Rick Ellis

(Hua Hin is about 200 kms./120 miles south of Bangkok on the sea.)

Then I kept eating this wicked breakfast in a restaurant/bar in Bangkok
and finally the American gent who owned it sold the lease to me EVEN
THOUGH THE BLUE JAYS WON THE WORLD SERIES. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA. The
    address is:

    Eye Q Bar & Grill
    19/31 Soi Wattana
    Sukhumvit 19 Road
    10110 Bangkok
Phone/Fax: (66)-2-2544780 (phone works today, fax will work as of
1-October. Phone will default to fax if unanswered after 4 or 5 rings,
so best to fax in the afternoon Eastern time as it is night time
    there.)

It builds character, it teaches tolerance for pain, and it's the
second most fun thing you can do with your body.....

Plus, you get to bleed every once in a while....

And nothing, but nothing feels better than hitting someone so hard you
make a little snot come out of their nose.....

Claybone, I'm surprised at you. You were a monstah DB...you should know
what it's like.

You've got the guy lined up in your sights, and you're almost beside
yourself with excitement because you know you're getting like a free,
unmolested shot.

You crunch the guy, driving through him, and into the ground. You hear
the little "whoosh" of air going out of him, and when you get up and look
down, he's got a little snot running out of his nose (blood is better, but
tougher to get).....

The best is when you hit them so hard you can watch their eyes roll back
in their head -- that's SO cool....

Course, what goes around, comes around, as I often learned....

There's always a way around classified information....especially
space alien classified information. Remember, it was space aliens
who killed Kennedy, and that was supposed to be classified information,
but we found out about it.....

Space Aliens are wily creatures and you always have to be on the lookout for
them.

I'm going to post this here for the benefit of Walt's co-workers when
he returns. This will allow them to know if he is indeed a Space Alien:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
YOUR CO-WORKER COULD BE A SPACE ALIEN, SAY EXPERTS ... here's how you can
tell (by Michael Cassels of the "National Enquirer")

Many Americans work side by side with space aliens who look human -
but you can spot these visitors by looking for certain
 tip-offs, say experts.

They listed 10 signs to watch for:

 1. Odd or mismatched clothes. "Often space aliens don't fully
understand the different styles, so they wear combinations
that are in bad taste, such as checked pants with a striped
shirt or a tuxedo jacket with blue jeans or sneakers," noted
Brad Steiger, a renowned UFO investigator and author.

 2. Strange diet or unusual eating habits. Space aliens might
eat French fries with a spoon or gobble down large amounts of
 pills, the experts say.

 3. Bizarre sense of humor. Space aliens who don't understand
earthly humor may laugh during a serious company training film
or tell jokes that no one understands, said Steiger.

 4. Takes frequent sick days. A space alien might need extra
time off to "rejuvenate its energy," said Dr. Thomas Easton,
 a theoretical biologist and futurist.

 5. Keeps a written or tape recorded diary. "Aliens are constantly
 gathering information." said Steiger.

 6. Misuses everday items. "A space alien may use correction fluid
to paint its nails," said Steiger.

 7. Constant questioning about customs of co-workers. Space aliens
who are trying to learn about earth culture might ask questions that
 seem stupid, Easton said.

"For example, a co-worker may ask why so many Americans picnic on
the Fourth of July," noted Steiger.

 8. Secretive about personal life-style and home. "An alien won't
discuss domestic details or talk about what it does at night or
 on weekends," said Steiger.

 9. Frequently talks to himself. "An alien may not be used to
speaking as we do,so an alien may practice speaking," Steiger noted.

 10. Displays a change of mood or physical reaction when near certain
high-tech hardware. "An alien may experience a mood change when a
microwave oven is turned on," said Steiger. The experts pointed out
that a co-worker would have to display most if not all of these
traits before you can positively identify him as a space alien.

Walt's a positive on 1 through 3, and 6, 8, 9 and 10. Don't know about the
others as I don't work with him. 7 out of 10 must qualify him as an alien, or
he's morphing into one!

That's the way it starts with Space Aliens... as buddies. Next thing you
know -- whammo, you're on their ship and their sticking this big needles
into your cranium sucking out your brain juices to experiment with.

Then, they put you back into society to spy for them....

    Not bitterness; just dislike.

But the list wasn't base on teams that pound the Cavs/Tribe/Browns
on a regular basis; Utah's always given the Cavs fits, the Tribe has
been killed by Toronto lately, and (as pointed out) the Broncos
haven't exactly been kind to the Browns. I'm just not fond of

    Brian Magid!-Now that's a name from the past. What a shooter,he came
    too early before three pointers.

That Cotton Bowl was a typical Maryland tease. They are blown away by
Houston in first half-fall behind 24-0,score three quick TD's and have
Houston backed up to end zone, but QB(Danny Davis) escapes sure safety
and Houston drives 98 yards to clinch it 31-21.

That Terp team was 11-0 but didn't get a lot of respect because that
was the one year Penn State wasn't scheduled. The Terps' record against
    them is something like 1-28-1.

No clayboy! I was the blocking back and backup QB. Great combo, he'd
pull the defense to the sideline, flip it back to me and I'd hit the deep guy
on the fly. Not to many expect this old buffalo to be able to fling that Duke 60
yard's and hit some guy they dropped coverage on.

I've been RONning (no relation to the estimable Cliff) in this file for
a while, but haven't seen the need to make a contribution til now, as
George Maiewski has held up my side of the Baseball Strike discussion
perfectly well (OK, the rest of you, start shooting).

I'm an American living in Munich, Germany since 1977. I came to Digital
as a part of the Philips acquisition (frying pan to fire, for a fact).
I'm a UNIX specialist working in the DC SIC Retail Banking, waiting for
the ax to fall.

My first loves are baseball and hockey, which I follow via videotape.
I get two ballgames a week in the can (one Giants, one White Sox). My
best pal is a passionate New York Ranger fan, and we get all their
games through his brother.

I also follow boxing, to the extent possible (very limited coverage on
German TV), and of course football (the game played with the feet), and
was fascinated by the passion the World Cup aroused in this file (much
more heat than light, I'm afraid: "Soccer is boring, and I don't care
how many godzillion foreigners watch it" vs. "Oh yeah, well, baseball
is for girls").

I have a low level of interest in basketball and detest American football.
I still haven't forgiven the NFL for playing the weekend President
Kennedy was buried.

One thing this Notesfile has made clear to me is that I have evidently
lost touch with the evolution of the American language. Really sorry
about the loss of Kevin Farley, who was making a major contribution to
my reeducation. I will just have to concentrate that much harder,
trying to figure out what JaKe is saying.

This might be the most entertaining Notesfile in the entire Net, and I
hope to be around long enough to enjoy it for a while.

Yeah, there's good kings (Claybone) and bad-egotistical kings (Hal) and
quite frankly Hal might have made them picks, but even Dr Midnight, had

    	Yes, real American Gridiron.

We were formed 11 years ago, and I have played since then. From
1987, every two years at the end of our season, we come accross to the
States to play an Alumni team from Perry, OHIO. We stay with the
other players and their families. So far we have lost all four games
on four separate visits, but the last one we were winning right up to 3
minutes left in the fourth Quarter when the heat & humidity finally to
    us.

Every year we Import a couple of Americans, usually a QB and WR
combination or DB. We also have a couple of Americans from the U.S.
airbase in Edzell that also play, but your only allowed 2 on the field
at the same time (British Gridiron rules).

Its just a hobbie, I have to keep telling myself, but I take it very
seriously lifting 4 times a week and football practice 3 times. In
the off season I love playing Basketball, but Shaq need'nt worry cause

Not familiar with them -- only familiar with the Dallas Harlequins RFC on
this side of the pond.

Dallas took their name from Harlequins, who are a London based Rugby
Union team and are one of the oldest in the league.

Will Carling, the England No.13 and Captain plays for them.

That's like the Wanderers took their name from the Dublin Wanderers.

> Will Carling, the England No.13 and Captain plays for them.

I have a Rugby magazine that some anonymous person sent me in interoffice
mail, with Will Carling's picture on the front, with an autograph "Best wishes,
Will Carling".

I'm not sure that it is authentic, but I still have it.

No, actually, I'm a big Liverpool fan -- but I don't dislike Chelsea, and will
support them if they're going against someone I don't like (hint: Arsenal)

Actually, Arsenal are the most boring football side in the universe to
watch. Most of the games they win, are won by a score of 1 - 0, usually
scoring in the last two minutes of a game.

They have an absolute muppet of a centre forward in Ian Wright, a
coke-head on the right wing and a Dutch midfielder whose only there for
the money, oh and David (oops, now just where is my goal?) Seaman.

Welcome Tony. My bestest advice is to read nothing of the previous notes
cause in here we're like that _Twilight Zone_ episode where the same thing
happens over and over and unlike _Groundhog Day_ we never make much
progress.

    Hi!
My name is Gary Shields and I'm in security at DEC, Hudson. To say I
like sports would be an understatement. I have, at one time or another
played or coached the following sports: Baseball, Football, Basketball,
Table Tennis, Pool, Darts, Bowling, Softball (slo & fast pitch). I
started playing Golf 3 years ago and I like it but I'm not very good at
    it:).

Anyway, you'll hear from me from time to time.

3.308more sports likes and dislikes.....HOTLNE::SHIELDSWed Feb 12 1997 09:4816
Yes, I like figure skating but I can't skate. And I'm still trying
to understand Ice Hockey, which I play all the time on Sega but still
don't understand some of the penalties.

Other sports that I like but don't do: Stock Car racing (driving back and
forth to work is enough), snow Skiing (the idea of me going down a hill
on two waxed boards at 70 m.p.h. just doesn't appeal to me) and Water
skiing (did it once but they tell me the object is to stay above the
    water:).

I guess I really only dislike one sport and that's Soccer. I just don't
see what's so exciting about it.

What you need to know is that in reality, it's all up to the ref. What might
be a holding penalty in the early first period almost never gets called late in
the third in a tie game....8^)

> Other sports that I like but don't do: Stock Car racing (driving back and

For a nominal fee, and a trip to Charlotte, NC, you CAN drive a stock car.
They only let you get up to around 130 or so, but it can be done. My brother
did it, and his overwhelming reaction was

"I don't know how those guys do it. They're strapped in so
tight they can't move, and you're always on the edge of
	 losing it..."

> I guess I really only dislike one sport and that's Soccer. I just don't

I'm convinced soccer is an acquired taste for Americans. If you have played
it, you appreciate it more than if you haven't. And it takes some time to get
used to the pace -- way too slow for people who love the fast dash of say
basketball.

The oddest thing is that Europeans love to bash us on baseball, how slow and
boring it is, when we say the same thing about their "national pastime...."

3.312MKOTS3::BREENSans DouteMon Feb 17 1997 12:105
Yeh but does Kim think you're really, really wierd to be "listening" to
a baseball game. I've definitely seen that reaction before from women.

Now many women from the New England area know baseball but of all the
    sports it's apparently the strangest.
3.313CAM::WAYand keep me steadfastMon Feb 17 1997 13:403
No. She'd rather watch baseball live than on the TV, but she doesn't pay a
whole helluva lot of attention to what I'm listening to when I'm working on
something.
