299.0. "The Annual NCAA Points Contest" by TNPUBS::NAZZARO (UMass is back - watch out NCAA!) Wed Mar 05 1997 17:34

OK - here it is!!! The 7th annual pick-some-guys-and-follow-them
NCAA Basketball Tournament contest. With our continued reduced numbers
at Digital, I'm cross-posting this in the ::CELTICS file and here, but
I'll maintain one master list of entries. If you know somebody else who
wants in (except for Walt Ashe, of course), that's OK, too.

Here are the rules (a couple of new ones this year):

    1) You pick eight players: a starting five of two forwards, a center,
and two guards, plus three subs that can play any position.

    2) You can pick only one player per team.

    3) You can choose only three players from teams seeded #1, or #2, but at
least one from each. So you can have one player from a #1 seed and two
from a #2 seed, or vice versa, but not three players from teams seeded #1.
The same applies to teams seeded #3 and #4 - one player from teams seeded
#3, and two players from teams seeded #4 or vice versa. That means you
must have at least two players from teams seeded #5 and beyond. If you
want to pick only one guy from a #1 seed and all the rest of your team
from teams seeded 5th and beyond, that's OK, too. You just can't pick
three players from teams seeded #1, for example.

    4) You can only pick two players per conference.

    5) Any player picked from a team seeded #5 or lower will receive double
points for every game that player is in the tournament.

    6) Any player picked from a team seeded #10 or lower will receive TRIPLE
    points!!!

    7) Respond either in here or send me mail at TNPUBS::NAZZARO; entries
will be accepted until Thursday at 12:00 noon EST.

    8) I will track how these players perform over the first weekend, list
the results from the opening weekend in here (hopefully Monday), and give
    updates throughout the tourney.

    Good luck to everyone!

entries, but who woulda thought that Tunji Awojobi would have been
chosen as many times as Keith Van Horn - 6?!?

I just got lucky and tried something, that would work with the new
rules. As usual I picked my final 4 (Kentucky, Kansas, Cincinnati, and
South Carolina), then added Tim Duncan. Giving me 2 #1's, 1 #2, and 2
#3's. Its a known fact that a 10, 11, or 12 seed usually wins in the
1st round. Since Nazz was giving out triple pts for those teams. I
looked at all the 10, 11, and 12 seeds. Out of those 12 teams, I only
liked College of Charleston, Providence, and Texas to win there games.
As luck would have it all three teams won in the 1st round. I was only
expecting 1 of them to wina game. Plus, I got 33 pt games from Freeman
    and Brown.
