282.0. "High School needs a pool." by LESREG::BRITTAN () Sun Jul 21 1996 21:07

    This may not be the correct forum but I had to start somewhere.

    I live in a city (Nashua, NH) which is beginning to do planning for
    it's high school renovation. I'm looking for any information I can find
    regarding high school pool programs. The high school swim team has been
    using the local YMCA pool which is very small, only four lanes. And
    practice schedules are difficult.

    While adding a pool to the high school would greatly increase the cost
    of the renovation I would think that once completed it could be nearly
    self sustaining. Although I confess I know nothing of what would be
    required to build, run and maintain such a complex.

    So what I'm looking for is;

    Pointers to people who may have been involved in simular programs in
    other towns. People with information about the costs and logistics or any
    information at all.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Mike,

My high school did that about 22-23 years ago. I don't know if any of the
folks who were involved were still around, but you might try contacting
the Glastonbury Board of Education in Glastonbury, CT.

Their main phone number is 860-652-7951. Explain what you are looking for
and they might be able to help.

Course, as I said, it was some time ago.....

I think all high schools should have pool. It's probably safer than makin
the kids go down the street to the local pool hall and have to deal with the
likes of MikeC in a game of 8-ball.
