163.0. "The WHAMMY note" by ANGLIN::WIERSBECK (Golden Gopher hoops!) Thu Mar 17 1994 12:39

There is an unbelievable string going on between Minnesota and
Wisconsin major college and professional teams dating back to last
    fall. Consider the following:

Gophers football beat Wisconsin, giving them their only loss and
    perhaps the National Title.

    Vikings beat Green Bay TWICE

    Woofies beat the Bucks

Gophs mens BB kills UW by 37

    Gophs women BB beat UW

Gophs hockey swept two games from the Badgers

Gophs mens BB beats Wisconsin by 31 in Madison

    Woofs beat Bucks again

Gophs hockey sweeps two more from UW in Madison

Gophs women BB beat Wisconsin again

I've heard of teams putting the whammy on a particular team, but one
state on another like this? It has come to be known as the "Minnesota
    Curse" :*)

Any other whammy's or curse's you care to enter are welcome. Some are
well known - Curse of the Bambino, etc. Team streaks like Phoenix's
20-0 lifetime record vs. Woofies as well.

The Suns have never lost to the Miami Heat either. That streak stands
at 13-0 with 1 more meeting here this month.

I also have a whammy on my guitar.

Yabbut I think the bestest whammy of all time was the whammy NYC put
on Baltimore in the early '70s. Wasn't it something like 3 different
teams from NYC played 3 Baltimore teams for championships and won each
    time?

    I remain,

Knicks beat the Bullets in the playoffs, but they never met
in the Championship round. Knicks faced the Lakers in 1970,1972,1973
Jets beat the Colts - 1969

Looks like we can chalk up the Pittsburgh Penguins dominance over
the Bruins for the last three years. Remember that old Canadien
jinx ober the B's? Pittsburgh's got it now. Bruins get whammied by
    the 'Goons every time.

and then there's always the much-feared Super Bowl curse which is
predominantly a cold-weather regional curse, selectively targeting
