Wow, Willie Mays, already 62. A most excellent birthday to the Say Hey
Kid. When I was a boy I always traded my Mickey Mantles away for ol'

Sey Hey - We're all getting old when my boyhood hero turns 62.

BTW glenn -

The Mantle cards are worth about twice as much as the Mays cards these days...
(Kinda like trading Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio).

    Hi to you too, Brucie.

Joe Lewis was the greatest of his time. And he covered a lot of time.

I always felt bad that he was taken advantage of by his "associates".
He earned a lot of money, but ended up broke and in debt to the IRS,
mainly because of poor investments and probably some outright theft.

re: Joe Louis

My Mom (yes my Mom) was a big boxing fan in her younger days. She closely
followed Louis and watched Ali. She felt that Louis would have beaten Ali
in a close fight.

I think they did a computer matchup of the two sometime during the early
eighties, and Louis came out on top.

most memorable....

West never did THAT 8^)

One of my earliest recollections of sports was Maz's homer against the
Yankees (I believe) to win the series.

Wasn't it about the same time that Harvey Haddix pitched 12 perfect
innings and lost the game in the 13th?

Someone else in the news a lot who's from W.Va. is Rod Thorn, he of
handing out NBA fines and suspensions fame.

TTom
112.52ACESMK::FRANCUSMets in '93Fri May 28 1993 18:198
Haddix pitched his game a few years earlier than 1960.

Maz actually had pretty good lifetime stats. That HR became what he is
remembered for and ironically may have hurt him in HOF voting. Anyone
    have Maz's stats??

maybe Not Saw, but up in the bed room listen to radio and JM, you'd have
sworn West never missed a shot in the playoffs....

and if memory serves me right he hit like a three quarter court shot as
time was expiring to either win or send a champioship game into OT that
 the Lakers won....

I naturally hated the man without any knowledge of him. Funny how Johnny
 could do that you....

Game 5 of the 1970 Finals, West hit a 55 footer to tie the game. Knicks
won in OT. That was the game that the Lakers led by 17, Willis Reed got

What do I feel lucky about?

Well, let's see. If feel lucky that I'm healthy and able to get around
and do stuff. I saw a guy last night at the concert who was stuck
in a wheelchair, barely able to function, and I thought about how fortunate
I am to be able to do something as simple as walk.

I'm lucky that I have people who care about me and care about what happens
to me.

I'm lucky because I have good friends, who are always there for me.

And I guess I'm lucky because I can look at all the problems in my
life, and when I think really hard about it, I realize that there are folks
out there who have far more and far worse problems than I do....

So, yeah, I guess I feel lucky.....8^)

Nope. Not by a long shot. Although someone DID take a shot at me

I was 5.

I remember watching the TV reports and asking my Dad why Walter Cronkite
had been on TV so long and was he going to stay up all night.

Walt got flowers? All I got was a lousy card telling me Happy 40th.
And I waited ALL Day for the stripper too!!!

Sheesh.....8^)

Seriously, Walt, er, Gwen is 30. Over the hill, spent, kaput, one foot

Okay, Gwen, make me feel bad. That's okay. I won't get all teary eyed

when the news came from Dallas. Needless to say everyone was in shock having
seen him in Ft Worth that morning.

Next thing you know Jack Ruby has offed Oswald and the rumors began
flying about a conspiracy. Lots of speculation about LBJ and others. It was also
a little strange when Oswalds wife married a FBI man the next year.

Me and 13,000 of my closest friends, packed into downtown Boston. I took off
with one of the women on the Digital team, and stayed with her through the
firsted half of the race. She ended up second woman, about 5 seconds back.
I ended up running a little over 5:50 per mile, 20:30 for the race. A tad

I attended a party recently very similar only the ages were approximately
10-11. It was at a place called the Super Club, and it was neat. The kids
did an obstacle course, played volleyball, and soccer.... Then there
were party rooms too.....
