2312.20 | formula? speed vs. chamber pressure | CSC32::HADDOCK | Pas Fini! | Wed Apr 30 1997 00:47 | 14 |

Well my chronograph got here. A Chrony Beta ($89 from Nachez). Does
anyone have any information on any formula that would give a fair
approximation of chamber pressure from bullet speed? I do realize
that there are many variables: caliber, bullet weight, barrel length,
brass volume, powder type, etc., but I'd think someone would have
figured this out by now. It would probably still be only an
approximation since things like the bullet drag on a given barrel
would still vary. I also suspect that the pressure increase is some
sort of curve, since at some time I'd suspect that it would take a
lot more pressure to push a little more speed, but I'd think a person
should be able to get within a reasonable ballpark.

| Ahhh Gi'day...
Nope, not even worth working on, I would think. I think some people did
some work on pressure from chamber dimensions, but actually chamber
pressure has little direct linear relationship with velocity unless
about 200 other things are taken to hold constant.
