981.0. "limit search information" by VMSNET::R_HARRIS () Wed Mar 05 1997 23:49

    Hello,

My customer is using LDAP queries from a Netscape Browser.

The customer wants to know how to limit searches in the DIT. An example
is when a user performs a search as such:

    query: search /c=us/o=beoing

Boeing has thousands and thousands of entries. The amounts of data from
these queries will crash the server. Is there any way to control this
    on the DSA?

    Please advise.

Thank you in advance for your support.

The NCL characteristic 'size limit' controls the number of search
    results the dsa can return.

However the DSA might use quite a lot of memory for holding
intermediate information before the results get generated.
You should make sure that you are running the latest version of the
DSA to avoid problems in this area.

Randy,

The Infobroker LDAP server is controlled by dua.defaults.
As the ibxd daemon run under root it will effected
by the dua.defaults for root in / and the system wide
ones in /etc. You can limit the number of results by
    editing system wide defaults /etc/dua.defaults.
