969.0. "Installation problems on VMS 7.1" by IOSG::INNS () Fri Feb 07 1997 17:46

    Hi,

    I have been asked to install X.500 V3.0-ECO3 on an Alpha
    running VMS 7.1. The installation proceeds without any problems
    until it starts to move files to target locations when it crashes
    out with an "unknown rights identifier" error message :

    %CREATE-I-EXISTS, VMI$COMMON:[SYSHLP.EXAMPLES.DXD] already exists

        If you want the X.500 Directory Service to start automatically when
        your system reboots, put the following command line into
        SYS$STARTUP:SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM.

            $ SUBMIT SYS$STARTUP:DXD$COMMON_STARTUP.COM

        The Directory Service requires DECnet to be running when this
        command is executed.

        The Directory Service startup can take several minutes, depending
        on the size of the X.500 database, so submitting the startup to a batch
        queue prevents the Directory Service from delaying system startup.

        %VMSINSTAL-I-MOVEFILES, Files will now be moved to their target
        directories...
        %SYSTEM-F-NOSUCHID, unknown rights identifier
        %VMSINSTAL-F-UNEXPECTED, Installation terminated due to unexpected
        event.

    Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong ?

    Thanks!

    Nick.

        Does the SYSTEM account have a SYSTEM rights identifier?

	The X.500 VMS installation uses the identifier DXD$SERVER
	which should be part the account DXD$SERVER. If the installation
	finds the account it assumes the identier exists. Remove
	the account and re-install. Check that database files
	are owner by DXD$SERVER

	X.500 has not been qualified on VMS 7.1.

969.3Apologies - my fault!IOSG::INNSMon Feb 10 1997 14:0312

    Hi,

    Sorry the problem is my fault. After checking the rights identifiers
    on the system account I realised my rightslist.dat file had become
    corrupted.

    Thank you for the help!

    Cheers,

    Nick.
