3160.0. "SMTP gw question" by NETRIX::"bichsel@mail.dec.com" (Walter Bichsel) Sat Mar 29 1997 01:59

I have a customer using MR as messging backbone. The external world
is connected through MRX. The MR to X.400 address mapping does not
use the organization name.

Now we would like to use MB400 with the SMTP gateway to connect the
MR backbone to smtp mail. The customer has more than 10'000 address
objects in DDS - therefore we would like to use partial address
mapping within the SMTP gateway. Example:

    user@x.y.company.com -> pn=user/ou2=x/ou1=y/p=company/a=admd/c=country

'company.com' is the part which can be substituted by the smtp gateway
(-> p=company/a=admd/c=country). Is there a way to instruct the smtp
gateway to start building the address elements at ou1. Some thing
like adding a place holder for the organization name in the address
translation. Example:

    company.com  translating to  o=@;p=company;a=admd;c=country

The @ would be the place holder. I know of other products providing
just functionality.

Walter Bichsel.

The RFC1327 address-mapping algorithm does this sort of mapping by default.

For example I create a foreign address mrsab3.x400 for the gateway
/c=gb/a=admd/p=prmd/o=smtp and run the address test tool....

3160.2Not exactly what I wantNETRIX::"bichsel@mail.dec.com"Walter BichselTue Apr 01 1997 15:1324
I must have:

>For example I create a foreign address mrsab3.x400 for the gateway
>/c=gb/a=admd/p=prmd/o=smtp and run the address test tool....

a foreign address of mrsab3.x400 mapping to c=gb/a=admd/p=prmd

Your smtp address of:

> john.smith@hi.bye.mrsab3.x400

must translate to:

/PN=john.smth/OU2=hi/OU1=bye/PRMD=prmd/ADMD=admd/C=gb/

They are not using the organization name in DDS - that works perfectly
with MRX and DDS!

What I need is som kind of place holder for the organization name
in the translation of the foreign address.

I understand now.

I don't think the gateway can do it: you would have to explicity create all
possible ou1 terms (with the 'o' term absent) in the directory, so the
algorithm in .1 will do the rest i.e. you need a foreign address for every
possible value of 'y'.
