3136.0. "Sending to the Internet using RFC822" by VMSNET::R_HARRIS () Mon Feb 17 1997 16:52

    Hello,

    I have a customer, the Federal REserve Bank that is trying to send to
    the Internet using an RFC822 DDA. The messages gets posted to the
    Internet, but it does not get delivered. It appears to have gone in a
    black hole.

    We are using SMTP GW v2.0, MB400 V2.0, X.500 V3.0 and Mailworks for
    UNIX v2.0.

    Using sendmail to send to an Internet recipient works fine:

    kbarth@iga.com

    However, sending to the following address results in the message going
    to a black hole:

    c=us;a= ;p=fed;o=internet;dda:rfc822="kbarth@iga.com"

    How do you troubleshoot something like this? It appears that the SMTP
    gw
    MB400 has done its thing.

    Please advise.

    Thanks in advance for your support.

    Randy

It does look like the mail generated by the gateway is getting off-node.
Try sending mail to a different user: it may be recipient mail system at iga.com
that is failing to handle the (legal) headers that the SMTP Gateway produces.
