3193.0. "MR and Decnet" by GRIFUN::PISANI () Fri Apr 11 1997 18:38

    Hi,

looking the documentation SPD for Message Router V3.3A I read in the
    software requirements

    	- Decnet/Osi for Open Vms
    	or
    	- Decnet/VAX

but it's not clear if "end system" or "extended system".

My customer has a VAX with NAS Base Server 200 that contains:
Decnet Osi for OpenVms Vax End System
    Decnet-VAX End Node.

If MR needs "extended system" is "Decnet Osi End System to Extended
Function VMS VAX" the right product ?

    Thanks in advance and Ciao
    Danila

I can't imagine why MR would require the extended system license for DECnet,
unless you were going to participate in a cluster and need a cluster alias.

In the case of PhaseIV DECnet, extended or full function simply adds routing
capabilities along with cluster alias support. For DECnet/OSI *prior* to 7.1,
extended functionality adds cluster alias support some gateways and additional
programming support (depending on the particular component of DECnet/OSI). With
7.1 and later, you get Host Based Routing as well.

If you did need extended though, the end system to extended license upgrade
would be the way to go, since it's cheaper than purchasing a new extended
license.
