3168.0. "X409 files left in MRX directories" by KERNEL::HOULDINGJ (Jill Houlding - Back in Basingstoke) Mon Jan 27 1997 18:30

Hi

MRX 2.3-004

Customer is finding that .X409 files are being left in the MRX directories.
Customer has 2 directories and about the same number of files are in bothe
directories- approx. 50 in each since 8-Jan-1997. The dates are spread
intermittenly acoss the intervening dates with some dates with no files -
it is not all X.400 messages.

Customer reports that he has traced some messages and they have been sent
successfully. There are no errors in the log file to indicate that there
has been a problem. There is no consistency about the destination of these
messages. All X.400 messages go through the same MTA out of this company.

I have checked that the MTA does not have the X409KEEP parameter set on
this MTA.

Can anyone offer any suggestions about why this might be happening or where
to look for clues.

Cheers

Jill

Has anyone any ideas on this one?
Where can I look for clues? Any tracing/logging which would help?

hi Jill,

we've seen the same on a MRX system that is quite heavily used.

as you've seen too, on our site no mail was lost or unsent, just some of the
.X409 files are being left in the directory, on some days many files and on
some days nearly none.

interestingly this happened after they had changed their environment from where
they had > 10 connections to various other MTA's to an environment where they
have mainly just one connection to a MB 400 MTA over which the whole traffic
flows now.

I was not able to find out what causes it, thought it might by in some way a
performance problem and just advised them to delete the old files periodically.

I know this is not a great help to solve the problem.

anyway

kind regards

markus
