180.0. "B5 among ten most wanted laserdiscs" by TOHOPE::WSA038::SATTERFIELD (Close enough for jazz.) Fri Feb 07 1997 19:17

The LaserDisc Newsletter just published it's annual consumer poll. Among the
various catigories is "The Ten Most Wanted Discs", in the number eight spot
is B5. This is a request for the series not just the pilot. Here's what the
editor (Douglas Pratt) had to say:

"Warner is aware that the "Babylon 5" TV series, which earned 2.5% of the
vote, would have the same sort of popularity that Paramount's "Star Trek"
series generates, though there are no plans to do anything about it at this
time."

In the five or six years I've been subscribing to LDN this is the first time
that any television series has appeared on the most wanted list. Is Warner
so flush after absorbing parts or Turner's empire that they just don't care
about making money unless it's really big bucks?

180.1and they won't let JMS and co. do it...SMURF::PETERTrigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertaintyFri Feb 07 1997 19:5413
Warners makes a lot of money selling video's of movies, and they
have little or no interest in doing so with a TV series. JMS
has mentioned this many times. They are selling videos of B5
over in the UK, but it's a different business unit of Warner's
(and they do PAL, rather than the US NTSC, so you can't
just order them). People have been writing Warners for years
about this, but it hasn't done much good. Personally I'd
love to see them go to DVD in the wide format. Lord knows
my tapes are showing some signs of wear and tear. Eventually
they may do something, but they seem fairly blockheaded about it
    at the moment.

Yep, I would certainly cough up the readies for the laserdiscs; even
buy a DVD player for the DVD, but I hope they go the LD. Unless the DVD
are not country locked, they will be for US players only :-(
