| I became a wizard via cheating. I knew I was doing so. I didn't need to
become a wizard really. I barely cared about the questing except to
understand the people I interact with socially better. I have helped players
along their way -- not that it was much help.
Perhaps IRC would be better for me but I haven't rediscovered how to get to it
after the first attempt only found a very few people.
ERIS is dead quiet. Gladly I did encounter Bo there once again.
I only connected to Dikumud a tiny bit.
Web forums are slow and clunky as compared to hageln.
The only wizard device/command I ever really use is echoto -- ever since I
lost my spanner. It is also handy to not run out of spell points when using
tell.

Back in the old days when I started playing and the old players
were already old (June 1990, ish), the Euros used to see the quests
as a good fun challenge and there was an amusing little intellectual
thing going on there. It was also taken across into notes with games
like Mornington Crescent and the wind-up games.
Since most of those type of contractors are either gone, or finding
actual challenges in the work environment at last, their input is gone
and the questing interest has waned.
I still feel that the answer to "Should quests be optional" should
be "No". Even with cheats, the work done to get up the levels has some
effect and the new wizards learn more than they would if every new
player was automatically a wizard.
I'm not a great coder and never was, but my quest is more cheat-
proof than most. You, Joe, could redesign the quests to be better
at guarding against cheats, if you wanted to.
Perhaps there should be a re-vamp ?
Otherwise, this isn't a MUD, but an IRC.
