2920.0. "POP Clients and DIGITAL1" by TNPUBS::MACDONALD () Mon May 05 1997 17:16

    With Exchange Server 5 pop support, is there a way to collect mail from
    DIGITAL1 using a pop client (not using RAS)?

    I'm afraid I'm missing the point of the question.

    RAS is just a way to connect into the DIGITAL network using a modem
    connection. POP support works independently of how you dial in,
    correct? You could be in your office where you have an ethernet
    connection, or you could be at home and require a modem connection.
    Either way, once you are on the DIGITAL network, you can connect to any
    network services over IP. Without RAS, what would you be dialing into?

    Are you asking whether the Exchange Servers run by CCS have POP
    support?

    No.. none of the Exchange servers are Version 5 yet. There is a plan
    to go to them shortly.. not sure of the time frame..

    Interesting, as the feedback I get around here on that same question is
    "There is no plan"...

RE: .5

	No, not yet, but Microsoft have demonstrated a later version
	of Exchange Server that does support IMAP4. Look for either
	a service pack or a new release to support it.

    Can Exchange Client work with a POP server? My home ISP utilizes POP
    for mail. I currently use Eudora light. It might make sense to do ALL
    my mail on Exchange. Can the exchange client on my home PC be used for
    both the POP mail server and the Exchange Server?

Yes there is an Exchange conference at
CHEFS::MS-EXCHANGE.

To answer the question, yes the Exchange
client can be a POP client. You need to
add the Internet Mail service. One way
to do this is Tools -> Services -> Add...
