2934.0. "What is KGB.TAF?" by WKOL10::STETSON (Think Digital Software!) Thu May 22 1997 22:13

I've done a search in this conference (and on the web) looking for
    assistance with a file - \TEMP\KGB.TAF.

This file is Read Only and gets upset when I try to clear the TEMP
    directory for improved performance.

If you know what this file is, what generates it, what it's used for
    please respond here.

    THANKS!!

    Rick

    Rick,

I don't know what the file is for, but why don't you move the file for
a while and see if anything unexpected happens.

    You can use:
    attrib -r -s -h KGB.TAF

Then rename it and/or move it.

    Cheers,

    /Bill

re: .1

Bill,

I appreciate your reply! Good to hear from you again!

I did as you suggested (GOOD SUGGESTION!) and things are
still stable.

I also checked the file contents with a hex editor. The
file is relatively small and the only thing in the file is
the word "lockmgr". The first line of the file reads:

000000006C6F636B6D67720000000000

Anyway, I'll keep and eye on C:\WINDOWS\TEMP during the day
and see if this boy pops up.

THANKS!!

Rick

I don't want to alarm anyone since I'm not sure about this, but wasn't there a
virus file named KGB? I don't remember anything about it other than the name.

Of course, it can never hurt to run a good virus scan on your system.
