2883.0. "ddeml.dll old???" by DYOSW5::WILDER (Does virtual reality get swapped?) Sat Mar 29 1997 15:12

After I install new software, for the next couple of reboots, my system
tells me that "\windows\system\ddeml.dll has been replaced by an older
version" and that windows may not work properly. This happens EVERY
    time I install new software.

It seemed to start back when my son installed FirstAid. That is now
long gone, but the messages still pop up. I have copied the ddeml.dll
from my notebook, which is very similar, but that hasn't stopped the
    message.

Now, everything SEEMS to be working correctly (this has gone on for
about 3 months now, and all seems right). Is there some way to get the
    PC to stop this message?

    Thanks,

    /jim

    Jim,

Windows subdir \sysbckup\ contains a backup version of recently
replaced system file(s). I think you have a newer version in \sysbckup
    than in \system.
Just replace the file in \system with the same file in \sysbckup.
FYI, the newest version dated 8/24/96 size 32,240 bytes.

P.S: Make sure you have "view -> options -> show all & don't hide".

Hmmm.....I do have to copies, however they are both dated the
    same...7/11/95

Where is your later version coming from???

Well, I don't have OSR2, and the date on my ddeml.dll file IS the most
current I have. Is there any way to convince W95 that this IS the most
current version, and to stop complaining???

    Thanks,

    re: < ddeml.dll >

    Jim,

    I would:

    1. Check for all ddeml.dll on the hard drive
[should have one (1) in <win>\system, and one (1) in <win>\sysbckup]
    2. Copy <win>\sysbckup\ddeml.dll to <win>\system

If the problem still persists then compare ddeml.dll's settings in
registry with a known good system at location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\
                           CheckVerDLLs\DDEML.DLL

    regards,

    /Thien
