2833.0. "Can browse through only one of two adapters" by SANITY::LEMONS (And we thank you for your support.) Thu Mar 06 1997 17:51

    Hi

I've read most/all of the approriate browsing notes, but didn't see my
    questions answered.

At this moment, I'm working from home. The system I'm typing this on
(running Windows95) has two active network connections:
    o a dial-up link to work, over which I run TCP/IP;
o an Ethernet link to one other PC here at home, both running NetBEUI.

Both systems have the same value for Workgroup, which happens to be the
name of a valid domain at work.
When I open Network Neighborhood, I can browse resources on my local
NetBEUI LAN only, and not over the dial-up link. I used to be able to
browse over the dial-up link, using WINS to locate the browsable
    resources.

Any thoughts about why I can see just my local world?

    Thanks!

The workgroup or domain you are assigned to has no active browser
set up. Sometimes it takes many minutes before your dial-up system
has a connection to a browser on the other end. Ask your local system
manager(s) how the browsers are set up. They are not there by default.

2833.2Network is fine but asks questions during boot?BAGUA::BRENCHThu Mar 06 1997 18:5914

A question along similar lines. I too have an ethernet network at home
between three PCs. All works well and I can access my files here at
work as well as those on the other machines. However, since I set up
the dial in networking Win95 wants to confirm my password and tells me
that there is no network available requiring two or three "ENTER"s to
    complete the boot process.

Hopefully I can get around this but so far I have not been able to
find the right place in the control panel to do so. Any suggestions?

    		thanks,
    			Colin..

Two things come to my mind (I'm not on a Windows 95 system right now):

    	- somewhere under Control Panel->Network->... you can switch off
a network login, use Windows login instead

    	- same area, switch off automatic re-connection to shares

    Hi Guenther

I didn't state my problem well in .0; let me try again.

At home, I have two PCs connected via Ethernet and NetBEUI. One of
these two PCs is alos connected to work, via Dial-Up Networking and
TCP/IP. In Network Neighborhood, I want to browse both worlds: home
and at work. Can this be done? Is it just supposed to work?

    Thanks

.4> I didn't state my problem well in .0; let me try again.

I thought you stated it well. Keep in mind that in order to browse on a
Microloft Network certain nodes need to be setup as browsers. Once you
connect to the office system with your home PC (I think) information
is exchanged between both nodes about the next browser(s). Bring up the
Network Neigborhood and do a couple of View->Refresh. I've seen that it
takes up to 10 minutes before my home system starts to receive browsing
    information.

Once I had my Workgroup set up to a Workgroup (or LAN segment actually)
which had no browser defined. Hence I could'nt browse at all. Now, that
I have defined a Workgroup with a browser I can browse the Digital
world but still cannot browse this specific Workgroup. I was told that
it has a LANMaster browser set up. My office node ON that
segment can browse but not as far as I can from my home system. From
what I've learned from a NT Server class is that you have to set up a
network of browsers in a more complex network.
