2779.0. "Installing fonts" by CHEFS::16.37.10.162::Mad (Aaarrr,ye lily-livered scurvy dog) Tue Feb 04 1997 09:31

I have a problem on my W95 pc, when I try to install a new font, the file menu
within fonts does not give me the option to install new font, just the normal
new/create shrotcut/delete/exit.

 Any help would be greatly appreciated

 Thanks

Stuart

2779.1Just copy the files to FONTS...JULIET::HARRIS_MANetworks Sales ExecTue Feb 04 1997 17:359
    If I remember correctly, you no longer need to INSTALL new fonts
    directly, just simply copy the font files to the FONTS directory where
    the rest of them are.

    Then Windows95 can use any of them there.

    Try it.

    I think you need to run the Fonts thing from Control Panel (not go
    directly to the fonts directory) then use Install New Font that should
    be on the file menu.

    I suspect copying the font to the directory may not help much.

2779.3Thanks but......CHEFS::16.43.128.32::MadAaarrr,ye lily-livered scurvy dogWed Feb 05 1997 07:2921
Thanks for the replies, sadly I have tried these. Copying into the fonts
directory does not give me the list within WORD/Excel etc, so I assume that
they have not been put into the registry(?).

This is where my problem occurs, I do not have the option on the file menu to
Install new font. I assume that the marvellous IS people here did something in
the build, but I don't know what. And neither do they.

Thanks

2779.4try this...FIEVEL::FILGATEBruce Filgate SHR3-2/W4 237-6452Wed Feb 05 1997 10:4212
Start -> settings -> control panel -> fonts -> file -> install new font

 The last will provide a screed to point to the new font source. As was
 prevously written, it appears that just dragging the new font to the
 \windows\font directory may do this as well.

To check
  open microsoft word, -> format -> font

the new font should show up in the left scroll box.

   I just got a new system last night and I'm seeing the same problem as in .0
 When you use the shortcut in the control panel to get to the fonts folder there
 isn't an option to "install new font" under the file button or anything else
 for that matter in the fonts folder. I have installed used the sequence you
 describe under WNT 4.0 and it worked just fine but under WIN95 it doesn't
 seem to work. BTW the help for WIN95 also describes what you have above.

I had a similar problem. I tried taking one of the fonts that came
with eXcursion and installing it in the fonts folder. The keymapper
application could see the font but msworks could not. I still don't
know why not.

    My WOW laptop has the problem descibed herein and the version on it is
    4.00.950a. My personal desktop machine doesn't have the problem and
    while I can't verify it until tonight, I believe it reports the same
    version.

  My machine that has the problem is also a laptop. I can't check the version
 until tonight but maybe there's something screwy about laptop installs.

Sorry to throw a bug in the ointment, but mine's a desktop !!

 The only other thing is that mine was installed using a specific Location
Build, whereas the chap next to me had his built with the local is build disk.
Don't know but can this option to install fonts be disabled by the build disk ?

Still floundering................
