2766.0. "My Briefcase woes..." by ZKWRK1::RJACK () Mon Jan 27 1997 22:11

    Every attempt I make to copy something into "My Briefcase" comes up
    empty. No error message.

    I've successfully made my dial-up network connection. I've attempted to
    explicitly copy the file to my Briefcase as well as drap the file to my
    briefcase with the same results. No error message, and no copy.

    Any ideas?

2766.2Briefcase problem with too many sharesNNTPD::"strangeways@mail.dec.com"Andy StrangewaysThu May 01 1997 13:0831
Several people (see 2114.*, 2400.* et al) have reported problems
using Briefcase with their office share.

Me too, but I now have a fix.

The symptoms are that Briefcase works fine, say, from your notebook
to a share on a desktop system, or to a public share on your local
office server, but not to your own personal share (which is, of
course, the only place that you actually want to synchronise).

When you try to drag a single file from your office share to the
Briefcase, nothing happens. No error message, you just get ignored.
When you try to drag a whole folder, you get a message saying
"unable to access disk".

If you do by some chance manage to get it to work one time, then
you find you cannot synchronise the files. Briefcase says the
share is not accessible - even though you can quite happily access
it through Explorer and edit the files therein.

The problem arises because there are too many shares on the office
server, and NT is too lazy to report them all when Briefcase asks
"what shares do you have over there?".

Microsoft have a patch, though it has not yet been fully regression
tested. Works fine (so far) for me.

If anyone wants a copy, mail me and I'll find somewhere to post it.

Andy.
