RE: .32

	Remember, that's JUST the media, NOT the licence.

    Correct. But we have a corporate license now. (Along with Windows NT
    Workstation 4.0.) Official announcement very soon. (Really!) All you'll
    need is the media... if it's for DIGITAL employee use.

    but can't find it in the european section.

    I therefore can safely draw the conclusion that Europe is not on this
    planet?

2734.41PYRO::RONRon S. van ZuylenWed Jan 29 1997 21:319
    Are you talking about the ordering of media outside of the Americas?
    (We have the "license" already.) I don't have an answer. We purchase
    the media through standard channels, like SSB and/or Stream. Where do
    you buy software today?

    The official notifications, when they appear, might have better
    information. Check with your business group management.

2734.42does it really save it in Word 6?PTOVAX::PEARLMANThu Jan 30 1997 01:184
    I am attending training this week and one of the presenters from
    Digital told us that Office 97 cannot save doc files in Word 6 (Office
    95) format. We were told that if you pick the option to save it in
    Word 6 format, Office 97 saves it in RTF anyway. Has anyone checked this?
2734.43They're right.PYRO::RONRon S. van ZuylenThu Jan 30 1997 02:049
    Well, if you do save as Word 6.x/95 format... older versions of Word
    have no problems reading it. To me, that means it works.

    But the presenter for DIGITAL is correct. The old version ".DOC" file
    created is truely stored in RTF compatbile format for, according to
    Microsoft, "maximum compatibility with earlier versions of Microsoft
    Word".

2734.44anything lost?PTOVAX::PEARLMANThu Jan 30 1997 20:092
    when the .doc file is stored in RTF is anything lost? - I assume
    characters are fine, but what about formatting, fonts, graphics, etc?
2734.45PYRO::RONRon S. van ZuylenThu Jan 30 1997 22:144
    Formatting, fonts, graphics, etc. are just fine. Nothing is lost. RTF
    isn't brain-dead.

    Whenver people complain about not being able to read a document that
    you send them in Word 97, rather than convert the document to Word 95
    format, send them the filter that allows Word 95 to open a Word 97
    document. Then they never have another problem.

    It's on the kit in the valuepack directory. Wrd97cnv.exe is the file
    that you want.
