| Did anyone go Saturday night, to the Debbie Davies, Monster Mike
Welch, Ronnie Earl show? I was amazed at how *long* it was. It
was supposed to start at 7, so many were there for that time.
Davies came on at 7:30 - I'd never seen her. She was good, but
not in the same class as the other performers.
This was my first time seeing Monster Mike Welch also, and
I was blown away. Words cannot describe. Where does he go from
here?! He's Ronnie Earl at 16 yrs old!!! Although he's clearly got
the energy of a kid, he's very poised, and has all the moves of a
*great* showman.
Then (at 11:30, when everyone was exhausted and had been sitting
there for 4+ hours) Ronnie Earl came on. I never thought I'd say
this, but I was disappointed. It was a blues night, but he chose
to play more jazz stuff than "pure" blues. He didn't cut loose,
and I hung in there until 12:15. By the time we left, fully half
the audience had walked out (all, seemingly, during his performance).
Sure, it was a result of the long show, but contributing to that
was the music he chose. It clearly disappointed folks who had been
waiting for him *all night*, and gave Mike Welch a big boost for
folks who were seeing both Welch & Earl for the first time.
Oh, and the Palace is a neat place too....

| Sue, where is the palace? sounds like a fun show to catch.
yeah, ronnie is definitely more into jazz than he ever was
long ago... i like the jazz stuff, but i also like th eblues numbers
he stretches to the limits!

a few months behind, please pardon me....
i've been catching ronnie earl at the bull for some time
now and i've noticed, as sue pointed out, that ronnie
is metamorphosing into something other than a blues
artist. i noticed that he was seguing into more of a
eric johnson style than his usual 'rock the place to the
ground' style. needless to say i left the bull very
disappointed. not to mention having to pay my ever first
cover charge there as well...
much to my dismay, recorded ronnie will replace live ronnie
for the time being.
