1047.0. "IIS Server error 500 when ASP script is executed" by TURRIS::av_pc1.shl.dec.com::sullivan () Thu May 08 1997 04:37

Environment: Alpha NT 4.0 sp2, IIS 3.0, Active Server Pages

Problem: I can't run Active Server Scripts. I get the error
"HTTP/1.0 500 Server Error (The specified module could not be found. )"

Note that I *can* run non active server scripts, such as
Frontpage web-bots - this problem seems to be localised to
ASP.

I'm beginning to think I need to rebuild this machine from scratch -
so many problems - or maybe it's just that Microsoft doesn't test
their software seriously on Alpha?

Problem solved. Here is whatI just posted to
the active server pages forum on the msnews
news server.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I have fixed this error.

The problem was, I think, due to another problem I have with
installing ASP, and which I have reported in this forum.
The first time I attempted to install ASP, it failed when it
got to the stage of installing the ODBC subset.
Now, it seems that this also caused the ASP core
components to not be installed. Even when I reinstalled
ASP without selecting the ODBC subset, it didn't fix the
problem.

I noticed that system32\inetsrv\ASP\components existed,
but there were no actual files in that folder.
So what I did was to remove system32\inetsrv\ASP....
and reinstall ASP, without selecting the ODBC subset.
ASP is now working.

I think the ASP kit install needs to be made more robust.

Greg.
